About this role

About the role:

The Benefits Clerk supports the day-to-day administration of employee benefits programs for SIS employees and management. This role maintains accurate benefits records, responds to routine employee and management inquiries, and helps ensure the timely and compliant administration of health and welfare, workers compensation, and Leave of Absence (LOA) programs. The Benefits Clerk reports directly to the Benefits Manager and performs special projects as assigned.

In this role, your responsibilities will be:

- Maintains accurate electronic benefit personnel files, including records related to health and welfare benefits, workers compensation claims, and Leave of Absence (LOA) programs, ensuring data is current, organized, and compliant with recordkeeping requirements.

- Responds to routine employee and management questions regarding benefits eligibility, enrollment, and programs; identifies more complex or sensitive issues and routes them to the Benefits Manager or the appropriate specialist.

- Performs regular audits of employee benefit files and records in coordination with Payroll, Human Resources, and other departments to confirm accuracy and identify discrepancies.

- Assists with open enrollment, new hire benefits orientation, and benefits-related correspondence as directed.

- Supports the Benefits Manager on special projects and initiatives related to employee benefits administration.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

As a candidate, you must have:

- High school degree or equivalent

- Prior Experience in employee benefits administration or a related field.

- Prior Experience in a general office setting, with clerical or administrative experience.

- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

- Ability to function effectively in stressful or fast-paced situations.

- Excellent time management, verbal and written communication, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

- An enthusiastic team player with a positive attitude.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Associates degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, or a related field preferred.

- Prior experience with HRIS or benefits administration software.

- Experience supporting workers compensation or Leave of Absence (LOA) processes.

- Working knowledge of employee benefits laws and regulations (e.g., ERISA, ACA, FMLA/CFRA).
