Pay rate: $18.55/hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Assist with stocking and setting up kitchen stations, maintaining stocked par levels of prepped items

- Prepare food, including cleaning and cutting of ingredients and cooking main dishes, appetizers, desserts and snacks as directed by the Executive Chef

- Work with the Food Expeditor or Manager on Duty to ensure orders are completed properly and in a timely manner

- Grill, steam and fry vegetables, meats, poultry and other foods

- Present, garnish, and arrange the final dishes for service based on specs from Executive Chef

- Maintain, clean and safe work area including proper handling of food, utensils, equipment, and dishes

- Nightly close down of kitchen facilities including sweeping, moping, trash removal, and cleaning/sanitizing of all cooking equipment and surfaces

- Ensure all leftover items are properly wrapped, stored, or discarded

- Assist with washing dishes and utilities as needed

- Assist with opening, closing, and monthly inventory counts as assigned

- Assist with the turnover of facilities and prep for special events

- Follow all Fairfax County Health Department standards. Maintain the highest level of sanitation practices, safe food handling and storage

Qualifications

REQUIREMENTS:

- Must be at least 16 years old

- Previous food prep work is preferred

- Must be able to work weeknights and weekends

- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

- Be comfortable working in close quarters inside a hot/humid environment

- Have some knowledge of proper cleaning/sanitation or be willing to learn

- Must successfully complete a Virginia Food Safety Training, ServSafe Training or company approved equivalent course within 30 days of start date

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

- Regularly required to walk, stoop, bend and reach with arms

- Lift/move up to 30 pounds frequently

- Be able to work in a standing position for long periods of time

- Use hands and fingers to handle, feel, reach, cut, mix, etc.

- Ability to taste and smell
