Range Safety Officer at Shark's Tooth - Sporting Clays Preserve

Job Summary

The Preserve RSO is responsible for the safe operation of the sporting clays range. The RSO will be responsible for leading and escorting members from the pro-shop to the clays course using Kawasaki mules. Once on the course, the RSO will perform a variety of duties, including monitoring safety, escorting members around the course, pushing release buttons, scoring, and attending to the needs of members. Additionally, the RSO will handle general duties to maintain the cleanliness and functionality of the range.

Primary Responsibilities & Essential Functions

- Escort members from the pro shop to the clays course using Kawasaki mules

- Ensure the safety of all members and guests on the course

- Assist members around the course, including pushing release buttons and scoring

- Attend to the requests and needs of members to enhance their experience

- Empty trash receptacles and reload traps with clays

- Clean and secure firearms, ensuring proper maintenance and storage

- Obtain and distribute ice and water for members

- Clean and refuel Kawasaki mules to ensure they are ready for use

- Conduct routine inspections of the course and equipment, reporting any issues or maintenance needs

- Provide excellent customer service, answering questions and assisting with any issues or concerns

- Assist with organizing and running events and competitions as needed

- Adhere to all safety protocols and guidelines to ensure a safe working environment

- Assist with target setting

- Maintain assigned training

- Move clays and ammunition inventory to storage areas

- All other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education and Experience

- Sufficient education and literacy needed to identify and read product labels and to communicate with guests.

- Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in basic English preferred

- Previous sporting clays range experience, NSCA competitive sporting clays shooting experience, or experience as a firearms instructor preferred

- High school diploma or equivalent

- Experience working in a shooting range or similar environment

- While the RSO is not an instructor, there may be future opportunities for assistance with attending a level I or recreational NSCA sporting clays Instructor certification course for qualified, interested RSOs. Note that these courses have as prerequisites 2 years of formal sporting clays shooting experience, as well as other prerequisites

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

- Detail-oriented and thorough

- Ability to perform consistent work to the highest of standards

- Ability to remain discreet and respect the privacy of guests

- Ability to interact with guests in a pleasant, friendly way

- Previous experience in customer service preferred

- Knowledge of shooting sports and safety practices is a plus

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills

- Ability to remain calm and professional in a variety of situations

- Physical ability to perform tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods

- Valid drivers license and ability to operate Kawasaki mules safely

Physical Demands

- Standing and walking for extended periods

- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to perform grounds work

- Lifting, pushing, and pulling materials, tools, and equipment up to 50lbs

- Ability to operate equipment, including but not limited to mowers, utility vehicles, blowers, trimmers and other grounds machinery

Working Conditions

- Ability to work in a variety of outside conditions such as heat and cold for long periods of time

- Exposure to dust, dirt, pollen, grass, and landscaping chemicals and fertilizers

- Work performed on uneven terrain such as hills, sand, rocks, or rough ground

- Occasional indoor tasks for equipment storage or maintenance
