About the client

Our client is a large international retail group with an in-house engineering organisation technology built internally, not outsourced. Teams own what they design and run, end to end, on platforms that serve the group's markets and brands across Europe.

The Cluj engineering hub is part of a wider international ecosystem, and the local capability continues to grow.

About the role

As a Cloud Engineer, you'll manage containerised and virtual machine workloads across multiple cloud platforms. Your focus is the high availability of the platform and the efficient placement of workloads and compute resources, maintaining cloud infrastructure and building new self-service capabilities that other teams can consume to deploy their own resources into AWS or GCP.

This is a platform role, not a product-team role: the team you'd join builds the self-service layer that development teams use, rather than owning a single application end to end. You'll work closely with development teams to improve infrastructure processes, drive automation, and improve service performance.

Responsibilities

- Build, manage and improve AWS and GCP cloud capabilities, with a focus on automation and continuous delivery.
- Manage and maintain Kubernetes clusters and other container platforms.
- Consult with product teams to implement and automate best practices.
- Share knowledge and help raise the team's maturity in operational practices.
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and ensure consistent implementation of IaaS and PaaS.
- Maintain common pipelines, production paths, and shared standards and practices.
- Collaborate with other teams to align platform vision with infrastructure strategy and open-source/vendor technology choices.

Qualifications

- Extensive experience with DevOps methodologies, including CI/CD automation, configuration management and release engineering.
- Expert-level Kubernete, deploying, scaling, monitoring and securing clusters in production.
- Deep understanding of cloud platforms , AWS , with GCP as a strong plus, with hands-on experience in provisioning, networking, security and cost optimisation.
- Proficiency with Infrastructure as Code, such as Terraform or CloudFormation , to automate and manage infrastructure at scale.
- Strong background in CI/CD pipeline design and optimisation, hands-on with tools such as GitLab CI/CD or Jenkins .
- Experience with observability and monitoring: Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana or Dynatrace to ensure system reliability and performance.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, able to troubleshoot complex distributed systems and support teams in making informed infrastructure decisions.
- Excellent command of English, written and spoken.
