Schemmer is seeking an experienced Survey Crew Chief to organize, execute, and coordinate surveying services for a variety of projects. In this role, you will lead survey field activities, support CADD/CIM drafting, and help deliver accurate, high-quality work on time and within budget. This opportunity is ideal for a knowledgeable survey professional who works independently, applies sound judgment, and collaborates effectively with clients and project teams.
What Youll Do
You will be successful in this position by delivering accurate survey data and documentation, meeting utilization goals, and completing work within established hours, scope, and budget.
- Organize, execute, and coordinate field surveying services and related CADD/CIM drafting activities.
- Apply survey procedures, quality-control standards, and legal principles when evaluating field and legal evidence.
- Perform surveys and associated tasks using a variety of data-collection and processing techniques.
- Conduct preliminary studies and field investigations to support project cost estimates.
- Assist with technical surveying applications, theories, concepts, principles, and processes.
- Help record, coordinate, and prepare project requests.
- Train, mentor, and help direct less-experienced technicians while supporting client needs, schedules, scope, and budgets.
- Follow Schemmers Health and Safety Manual and all contractor-specific safety requirements.
- Maintain familiarity with applicable county, state, and federal regulations and codes.
Qualifications
What Youll Bring
- Thorough knowledge of surveying principles, practices, procedures, quality control, and legal principles.
- Ability to complete survey-related research and make independent judgments on survey issues.
- Knowledge of engineering design and construction practices.
- Experience with Trimble equipment and CADD/CIM software.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
- Valid drivers license and a good driving record.
Education and Credentials
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Associate or bachelors degree preferred, including relevant college-level CADD/CIM coursework.
- Surveyor in Training (S.I.T.) credential preferred.
Experience
Seven or more years of job-related experience with increasing responsibility and demonstrated ability to work independently.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Safely walk, stand, sit, and move across construction-project surfaces.
- Frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds using safe practices.
- Climb on construction surfaces using required safety equipment.
- Travel occasionally to job sites.
- Work for prolonged periods at a desk and computer.
