About this role
Position Objective: The Molecular Biologist will independently provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS) within the National Institutes of Health. Duties include developing and optimizing cell-based and biochemical assays for fully automated robotic screening, performing assays in 384 and 1536-well plates.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and optimize cell-based and biochemical assays for fully automated robotic screening, performing assays in 384 and 1536 well plates 1
- Confirm assays and determine EC50/specificity for primary samples 3
- Evaluate new technologies resulting in proposals for new screening strategies and novel assay formats. 2
- Operate liquid dispensing systems (acoustic droplet dispensers, arrayed pintool, Bioraptr RFD, Multidrop Combi) and multimodal detectors/plate readers (BMG Pherastar, PE EnVision, PE ViewLux). 4
- Advance screening projects, communicate with collaborators to troubleshoot and optimize screening assays. 5
- Maintain and analyze several mammalian cell lines, laboratory supplies and equipment
- Prepare oral presentations for internal and external groups and meetings.
- Initiate and complete Chemical Probe Development Plans in collaboration with team members and outside collaborators.
- Analyze experimental results and organize them into tables and figures with Prism, Excel, or other data analysis and visualization software.
- Write technical reports and manuscripts in collaboration with NCATS project team and external investigators.
- Write technical reports and prepare manuscripts in collaboration with investigators.
- Deliver a minimum of one presentation per year to audiences outside the NIH.
- Work products and documents related to developing and optimizing cell-based and

- Work products and documents related to maintaining and analyzing mammalian cell lines; maintain lab supplies and equipment; operate liquid dispensing systems and multimodal detectors/plate readers.
- Work products and documents related to initiating and completing Chemical Probe Development Plans.
- Work products and documents related to writing/preparing technical reports, manuscripts and oral presentations; work with staff on preparation of grant applications.
- Meet with lab members to present updates and clean equipment
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Cell Biology, Molecular Biology or a related discipline
- Skilled in MS Office Suite
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staff
- Detail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects
