Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer - Uganda

We are seeking a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer to join our aviation team in Uganda. This is an opportunity to use your professional skills in a mission-focused environment, supporting the safe and effective operation of the MAF fleet.

You will provide a professional aircraft maintenance service, ensuring aircraft airworthiness and operational efficiency in accordance with national and international aviation standards, MAF Standard Operating Procedures and approved maintenance data.

The successful candidate will need to be flexible in supporting programme operations. This may include providing maintenance support at locations other than their designated base.

A development opportunity for an unlicensed engineer

Although this position is advertised as a Licensed Aircraft Maintenance Engineer role, MAF would also consider an unlicensed aircraft engineer who is seeking to build the practical experience required towards an EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence .

Responsibilities

- Plan and carry out scheduled and unscheduled aircraft maintenance within the scope of your licence, ratings and MAF’s approved capabilities.

- Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair and reassemble aircraft, engines and components in accordance with approved data, manufacturer instructions, MAF SOPs and applicable aviation standards.

- Complete maintenance records, inspection forms, checklists and release-to-service documentation accurately.

- Supervise maintenance activities and ensure all work meets required quality, safety and regulatory standards.

- Report defects, safety concerns and legal-compliance issues through the appropriate MAF reporting systems.

- Maintain equipment, tools and hangar facilities as required.

- Participate in quality and safety audits, continual improvement activities and professional development.

- Support the training, mentoring and development of trainees, AMEs and other maintenance staff.

- Work collaboratively with local and regional engineering teams, including supporting other MAF programmes for up to 10 weeks per year.

- Contribute to team meetings, projects and the wider work of MAF.

- Participate in MAF’s spiritual life through prayer, biblical reflection and engagement with its evangelical Christian mission.

Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Essential

- Completion of an approved aircraft maintenance engineer pre-employment course.

- ICAO Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence without type rating, or relevant progress towards an EASA Aircraft Maintenance Licence for an unlicensed appointment .

- At least two years’ aircraft maintenance experience; this may be gained concurrently with obtaining a licence.

- Knowledge of Human Factors in Aviation Maintenance.

- Knowledge of health and safety principles.

- Aptitude in verbal, non-verbal, numerical and mechanical reasoning.

- A methodical approach and strong attention to detail.

- High levels of initiative and self-motivation.

- Ability to work collaboratively in a multicultural and mission-focused environment.

- Willingness to support maintenance activities away from the normal base location.

Desirable

- National Aircraft Maintenance Engineer Licence, as required.

- Relevant aircraft and engine type courses.

- Experience with turbine or reciprocating engines.

- Communication and information-handling skills.

- Decision-making and initiative.

- Resource-management skills
