Traveling MEP Project Manager

Job Title: MEP Construction Manager Job Description This role oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection scopes on complex construction projects, with a strong emphasis on mission critical and data center environments. The MEP Construction Manager leads preconstruction activities, manages subcontractors, and drives budgeting, scheduling, BIM coordination, commissioning, and project closeout. The position focuses on delivering projects safely, on time, and within budget while maintaining strong relationships with clients, field teams, and trade partners throughout the entire project lifecycle. Responsibilities

- Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection scopes for complex construction projects.
- Oversee all MEP-related preconstruction activities, including scope definition, planning, and coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage subcontractors involved in MEP and fire protection work, ensuring performance, quality, and adherence to project requirements.
- Drive project budgeting and cost control for MEP scopes, helping ensure projects are delivered within established financial targets.
- Develop, maintain, and monitor project schedules related to MEP activities to ensure milestones and deadlines are met.
- Coordinate Building Information Modeling (BIM) activities for MEP systems to support accurate design, clash detection, and efficient installation.
- Lead and support the commissioning process, including early turnover dates, hand-offs to third-party commissioning agents, and overall commissioning activities.
- Ensure all work is completed safely, on time, and within budget, with a strong focus on mission critical and data center environments.
- Partner closely with clients, field teams, and trade partners to drive project success and maintain strong working relationships.
- Support and oversee data center critical work, including Methods of Procedures (MOPs) processes, to protect mission critical operations.
- Communicate proactively with project teams and customers, providing clear updates, expectations, and coordination across all MEP scopes.
- Participate in project closeout activities, ensuring documentation, turnover, and commissioning requirements are fully met.

Essential Skills

- Proven experience managing MEP scopes on complex construction projects, including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Strong background in construction and MEP engineering, with the ability to oversee technical aspects of mechanical and electrical systems.
- Demonstrated understanding of early turnover dates, hand-offs to third-party commissioning agents, and the overall commissioning process.
- Hands-on experience with mission critical and data center projects, including critical systems and infrastructure.
- Experience working with data center critical work and Methods of Procedures (MOPs) processes.
- Ability to communicate effectively and proactively, with a strong focus on building and maintaining team and customer relationships.
- Capability to coordinate BIM activities related to MEP systems to support design and construction efficiency.
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholders and subcontractors while maintaining schedule, budget, and quality standards.

Work Environment This role operates in a mission critical and data center construction environment that is fast-paced and highly schedule-driven. A strong team structure and support structure are in place to help manage complex projects and critical systems. Work expectations commonly exceed 60 hours per week, reflecting the intensity and importance of the projects. Travel rotations are required, typically following patterns such as 10 days on and 4 days off or 11 days on and 3 days off. During these rotations, the MEP Construction Manager typically works 6 days per week, with occasional weekend work roughly once per month or every six weeks. This is a Contract position based out of Minneapolis, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $160000.00 - $215000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
