About this role
Tesla's Robotaxi software team enables Robotaxi to launch and scale through software. The team is resource constrained: a Team Lead coordinates the software ecosystem and triages unowned gaps, a Data Engineer owns the data ecosystem and consults on data initiatives, and an open Sr Product Manager owns product for ODD, rPlan, and ecosystem discovery. You will own the remaining technical work: productionizing critical software tools, supporting technical discovery, and supporting ad-hoc technical initiatives.
Design Technology, which is part of Vehicle Engineering, builds the internal tools that thousands of engineers use every day. This role sits in Robotaxi Ops Software as the software engineer who productionizes tools and coordinates technical work that the Team Lead, Data Engineer, and PM cannot absorb.
- Productionize critical software tools (ODD, rPlan, content management, ecosystem coordination tools)
- Productionize and technically coordinate rPlan, Robotaxi's demand planning tool, which has no software engineer / product management direction today
- Productionize ODD: migrate from static HTML files to an analysis platform for parameters that drive hardware builds (PM owns product; Data Engineer consults on data)
- Support critical technical discovery (ex. partner API review)
- Support ad-hoc technical initiatives the team cannot currently staff
- Partner with the Team Lead, Data Engineer, and Sr PM without duplicating their ownership
- Experience as a software engineer productionizing internal tools used by other teams
- Ability to operate in ambiguous problem spaces with many stakeholders and no existing playbook
- Track record coordinating technically across teams you do not control
- Clear written and verbal communication: design docs and decisions others can execute
- Comfort owning a problem domain end to end: the right technical path, pushback when partner teams are off it, and writing code when they cannot move
- Experience with fleet, logistics, vehicle operations, or similarly operational domains (preferred)
