Finance Controls Lead - Senior Manager

About the role:

As a Financial Control Lead, you will provide independent financial oversight, technical accounting expertise and constructive challenge across assigned Lines of Service. Working closely with Business Partnering, FinOps and wider FR&C teams, you will help ensure financial outcomes are accurate, supportable and aligned with firm policies and accounting standards. The role requires strong relationship-building skills alongside the ability to apply professional scepticism and independent judgement. You will support complex accounting decisions, identify and mitigate control risks, and drive continuous improvement in financial control processes. A key focus is maintaining a robust year-round control environment and ensuring issues are resolved effectively and promptly.

What your days will look like:

- Provide independent financial control oversight and technical accounting expertise, ensuring financial reporting is accurate, compliant and aligned with relevant standards and policies.

- Review and challenge financial results, complex accounting matters and control risks, applying sound judgement to support robust decision-making and governance.

- Lead financial control activities across reporting cycles, audits and assurance processes, ensuring strong documentation, evidence and timely resolution of issues.

- Build trusted relationships across Finance and business teams, driving continuous improvement, promoting best practice and supporting colleagues through guidance, coaching and constructive challenge.

This role is for you if:

- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or international equivalent) with proven experience in financial control, accounting, audit or a related finance environment.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, with the ability to apply sound judgement in complex commercial and accounting situations.
- Experience reviewing and challenging financial performance, including revenue, costs, profit and loss, balance sheet and provision reporting.
- Strong understanding of accounting standards, financial controls, governance requirements and reporting processes, including month-end, year-end and audit activities.
- Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to provide constructive challenge and translate technical concepts into practical insights.
- Highly organised and results-focused, with strong attention to detail, integrity and problem-solving skills; experience coaching others and driving continuous improvement is advantageous.
