PA or NP

Primary Job Function:
Responsible for providing and managing direct primary care medical services including assessing and managing patients following established standards and practices. Requires knowledge of the behaviors, developmental stages, physical and emotional needs, life cycle changes, culture, and comfort and care appropriate to the population served. Populations served by department are identified in the department’s scope of service.
Essential Job Functions:
1. Provides excellent service to our customers.
a. Maintains confidentiality according to HIPAA guidelines at all times.
2. Population Specific
a. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
b. Demonstrates the knowledge and skill necessary to provide care appropriate to the patient population served.
c. Interprets information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her population specific needs.
3. Patient Care Assessments
a. Performs physical examinations using appropriate medical equipment, instruments, and tests
b. Obtains medical history as appropriate and documents findings.
c. Instructs patient regarding diagnosis, medications, and treatments.
d. Performs procedures as necessitated by patient’s condition, including CPR.
e. Orders or performs various tests and analyses to provide information on patient’s condition.
f. Diagnoses patient’s condition based on exam, tests, and reports.
g. Prescribes and/or administers medications and treatments as appropriate to assessed medical conditions; vaccinates patients to immunize against communicable disease.
h. Refers patients to community resources or medical specialists as appropriate for counseling or specialized diagnosis or treatment.
i. Educates patients regarding health and illness prevention.

a. Follows the current “standard of care” in the community.
b. Maintains productivity as directed by RHC productivity guidelines.
5. Documentation
a. Maintains documentation in accordance with AMA’s standards and policies and regulatory standards.
6. Provides Patient, Staff, and Customer Safety
a. Creates a work environment that promotes safety for patients, staff, and customers.
b. Reports any safety concern or near miss on the appropriate incident report form.
c. Maintains awareness of safety at all times.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.
Working conditions:
1. May involve exposure to communicable disease and other conditions common with medical facilities.
2. May be exposed to potentially infectious materials that require following established protocols and precautionary measures.
a. May be required to wear protective clothing such as gown, gloves, surgical mask and/or goggles.
3. Frequent contact with physicians, staff, patients, and the public.
4. May, on occasion, be exposed to disoriented or agitated patients who need to be calmed or restrained.
Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:
Physical and Mental Requirements
1. Must have the analytical ability to evaluate problem situations and come to appropriate conclusions.
2. Must use of judgment and discretion.
3. Must have the ability to manage several assignments simultaneously and prioritize appropriately, to cope successfully with diversity and complexity, to integrate seemingly unrelated data and to reduce complex notions to relatively simple terms.
4. Must have the ability to communicate effectively with peers, staff members, patients and others and to document using appropriate vocabulary, grammar and work usage.
5. Must have the ability to achieve outcomes with respect to the coordinating of patient care activities with others.
6. Must have the ability to respond and react immediately with unimpeded auditory perception of verbal/vocal instructions and auditory auscultation such as codes or emergency situations.
7. Must have the ability to respond and react immediately to visual observation and in emergency situations.
8. Must be sufficiently mobile to access patients on different sides of exam tables, reach patients at different heights and positions from ground to six feet above the ground.
9. Must have the ability to sit, stand, stoop or bend for extended periods of time varying on patient schedules and needs.
10. Must have normal range of hearing, vision, manual dexterity, and physical capabilities consistent with a standard medical practice.
11. Must have the capacity to document in a clear and concise fashion and according to CMS Guidelines for RHC.
Education and Experience
1. Licensure to practice medicine in the State of Mississippi.
2. May require Board certification.
3. May need to achieve and maintain active, provisional or courtesy clinical staff membership at Wayne General Hospital.
4. Must maintain current state and federal DEA certification.
Other Skills and Knowledge
1. Knowledge of legal and ethical standards for the delivery of medical care.
2. Knowledge of current principles, methods and procedures for the delivery of medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment in the area of expertise.
3. Ability to observe, assess and record symptoms, reactions and progress.
4. Knowledge of relevant drugs and non-pharmaceutical patient care aids and ability to prescribe dosages and instruct patients in correct usage.
5. Knowledge of community medical diagnostic and patient care services.
6. Ability to maintain quality, safety and/or infection control standards.
7. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
8. Licensure or certification is considered minimal competence unless an event of error occurs.
