Job Title: Structural Project Engineer Job Description
This role is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Structural Project Engineer to lead the structural design and documentation of multidisciplinary building projects while serving as a technical mentor to junior engineering staff. You will take ownership of structural engineering efforts from concept through construction, guide project teams, and play a key role in delivering complex commercial and institutional buildings. The position is based in the Philadelphia office and offers a flexible hybrid work arrangement, exposure to diverse, high-profile projects, and the chance to influence the next generation of engineers.
Responsibilities
- Lead structural engineering efforts through all phases of assigned projects, from conceptual design to construction completion.
- Develop and maintain project work plans, including scope, schedule, and resource allocation for structural engineering tasks.
- Evaluate and select appropriate structural systems during conceptual design, aligning with architectural intent, building use, and budget.
- Establish project-specific structural design criteria and perform detailed building code and standards research.
- Coordinate closely with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure integrated and efficient building design solutions.
- Review milestone deliverables such as drawings, specifications, and calculations, providing technical leadership and quality oversight.
- Monitor project budgets, schedules, and quality standards for structural engineering work, proactively addressing risks and issues.
- Review and validate work completed by junior engineers and technicians, providing feedback, guidance, and technical mentoring.
- Perform structural analysis and design calculations to support safe, efficient, and code-compliant building structures.
- Lead or participate in client meetings and project reviews, presenting structural design concepts and addressing technical questions.
- Conduct site visits to observe construction progress, verify conformance with structural documents, and resolve field issues.
- Provide construction administration support, including responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and collaborating with contractors.
- Contribute to project engineering and management activities, helping to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and maintain project documentation.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
- Registered Professional Engineer (PE) license in at least one state, or being close to achieving PE licensure.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in structural engineering for building projects.
- Proficiency in Revit for structural modeling and coordination.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD for structural drawings and documentation.
- Strong understanding of structural systems and building design principles for commercial, institutional, and similar projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading engineering projects, including technical direction and coordination.
- Strong knowledge of building codes and structural design standards applicable to building structures.
- Experience with structural analysis, calculations, and design of building components.
- Effective communication skills, including the ability to present technical information clearly to clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Client-facing skills with the ability to build relationships and represent the structural discipline in meetings and reviews.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience working within multidisciplinary architecture and engineering teams.
- Background in construction administration, including site visits, RFIs, and shop drawing reviews.
- Experience with project engineering and project management responsibilities.
- Ability to mentor junior engineers and technicians and support their technical development.
- Comfort working on diverse, complex building projects across multiple markets, such as commercial and institutional facilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines.
Work Environment
This position is based in the Philadelphia office and requires working on-site in Philadelphia with a hybrid schedule, typically three days in the office and two days remote. You will work within a large, team-oriented environment that includes more than 250 architects and engineers, collaborating closely with architects, MEP engineers, and other disciplines on integrated building design. The role follows standard business hours, with flexibility to meet project-based deadlines and occasional travel depending on project needs. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $90000.00 - $130000.00/yr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
