Job Title: Intermediate Project Engineer Job Description
Join an established leader in engineering, fabrication, and construction of gas compression, gas processing, and heavy oil facilities. As an Intermediate Project Engineer, you will be an integral part of designing and building industry-leading hydrocarbon processing facilities for global installation.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate specific multi-discipline functions or areas within the project scope, including engineering, procurement, fabrication, and commissioning.
- Manage interfaces with key project stakeholders to ensure smooth communication and project alignment.
- Ensure performance meets contract specifications and budget limits, and that the project execution progresses as per contract and project baselines.
- Manage project scope, change management submissions, and processes effectively.
- Liaise with Project Planners-Schedulers and Project Cost Controls personnel to prepare regular project status and progress reports.
- Participate in Piping and Instrumentation Drawing (P&ID) reviews and Hazardous Operability Studies (HAZOPs).
- Prepare and review line, equipment, instrumentation, and specialty items lists.
- Coordinate and assist with the sizing and selection of project instrumentation and process equipment.
- Engage in Bid/Evaluate/Award processes, including development of Request for Quotation (RFQ) packages, bid evaluations, and Bill of Material (BOM) entry into Enterprise Resource Planning software.
- Check vessel, structural, steel, piping spooling, assembly, and civil drawings.
- Participate in 3D model reviews and construction planning meetings.
- Coordinate and review the compilation of Project Data and Operating Manuals for distribution to the project team and client.
- Perform shop inspections and resolve Nonconformance Reports (NCRs).
- Review ship loose lists and resolve field Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Supervise junior or co-op student project engineers on a temporary task-level basis.
Essential Skills
- Registered Engineer-in-training or Professional Engineer registered (or in process) and in good standing with Alberta Professional Engineers, Geologists, and Geophysicists of Alberta (APEGGA).
- 3+ years of oil and gas industry experience.
- Undergraduate degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Eligibility to work in Canada.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Expertise in SAGD boiler feed water softening, evaporator/oily water systems, and bitumen-water separation.
- Knowledge of high-pressure steam generation (OTSG is a nice to have but not critical).
Work Environment
In-office role working closely with various engineering teams, engaging with clients, and collaborating on the shop floor. There is potential for travel to site during later project stages based on candidate interest and willingness.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Airdrie, AB.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.

This is a fully onsite position in Airdrie,AB.
