About this role
SUMMARY
The Assistant Controller oversees general ledger and financial reporting functions within a government contracting environment. This role ensures compliance with GAAP, FAR/DFARS, and DCAA requirements, and supports accurate financial reporting, audits, and indirect rate management.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Oversee general ledger operations, including project and indirect cost accounting
- Manage close cycles and ensure financial reporting accuracy and timeliness
- Review financial statements and supporting schedules in compliance with government requirements
- Analyze indirect rates and support provisional and final rate calculations
- Ensure compliance with FAR, DFARS, internal controls and company policies and procedures
- Prepare incurred cost submissions
- Serve as primary contact for financial statement and DCAA audits
- Maintain and enhance accounting policies and procedures
- Supervise and develop accounting staff
- Conduct regular internal audits of billing and payroll processes to ensure accuracy, compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements, and the integrity of financial data. Includes reviewing transactions, identifying discrepancies and recommending corrective actions

QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting or equivalent experience
- 7–10+ years of progressive accounting experience
- 4 – 6+ years of management experience
- Strong experience with general ledger management, close processes, and financial reporting
- Experience with ERP systems (e.g., Deltek Costpoint preferred)
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong understanding of ERP systems and system controls
- Deep understanding of government contract accounting and compliance
- Strong leadership and analytical skills
- Ability to oversee complex accounting operations and audits
- Advanced Excel and reporting capabilities
Work Environment and Physical Requirements
- Work is primarily performed in an office environment
- May require extended hours during peak periods (e.g., month-end close)
- Physical activities include sitting, standing, and occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds)
- Must adhere to company safety policies and procedures
