Senior or Principal Consultant – Battery Energy Storage

DNV supports clients across the rapidly evolving energy storage and electrification value chain, helping them navigate the technical, commercial and investment risks associated with the transition to a net-zero energy and transport system. Our work spans Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), integration of storage with renewable energy and wider infrastructure projects, including EV charging infrastructure.

The team provides independent technical and commercial advisory services, with a strong focus on supporting investors, lenders, developers, asset owners and operators. We help clients assess technology readiness, project deliverability, operational capability, market positioning and long-term asset performance across energy storage and associated infrastructure.

We draw on DNV’s wider Energy Systems expertise, combining sector-specific due diligence experience with deep technical knowledge of batteries, power systems, grid and renewables integration, safety, operations and lifecycle performance. This enables us to provide practical, investment-focused advice to financial institutions, infrastructure funds, developers, OEMs, operators, public bodies and emerging technology companies seeking to develop, finance, acquire or operate storage assets.

Our Opportunity

We are looking for experienced Senior and Principal Consultants with expertise in the energy storage sector. The role will primarily require you to provide technical due diligence services for BESS projects alongside other renewable and energy system asset types and provide risk management and safety/fire safety advisory services.

Successful Senior and Principal Consultants balance project management and delivery with proactive business development activities and longer-term development of services and team capabilities. You are expected to be developing as a subject matter expert, industry leader in battery storage, with the opportunity to shape the role around your interests and market developments.

This role can be based from any of our London, Bristol, Glasgow or Stockport offices, with flexibility to work under our hybrid working model. Travel will be required to support client engagements, project delivery and internal collaboration.

Responsibilities

- Project management: Manage due diligence and advisory projects, acting as client’s key point of contact, and guiding a team of consultants to execute project objectives
- Project delivery: Work as a subject matter expert, leading work packages in a range of battery storage projects, including supporting global projects
- Thought leadership: Develop thought leadership material and represent DNV at events to support industry engagement and business development
- Business Development: Engage with senior stakeholders in our customers’ organisations and through your network to identify and develop new business opportunities
- Proposal development: Develop proposals based on client discussions or more formal tender processes
- Communication: Establish, build, and maintain collaborative relationships with clients, colleagues and other stakeholders
- Technical leadership and mentoring: Support the development of others through training, coaching and mentoring

- Considerable experience working in a consulting environment or for a developer, with a specialty in battery storage, renewables industry or infrastructure electrification
- Technical expertise in power industry (electrical systems and /or renewables projects and /or risk and safety management) or direct experience of BESS infrastructure deployment
- Experience in technical due diligence projects
- Technical expertise which includes planning and grid applications, technology evaluation, site evaluation, risk management, safety / fire assessments, contract analysis and financial model reviews
- Experience in leading complex projects and/or workstreams, with strong reporting and analysis skills
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills, confident building professional relationships based on trust and integrity
- Commercially minded, with experience developing client relationships, identifying opportunities, understanding market trends and helping shape service offerings that meet evolving customer needs
- A valid UK Driving Licence would also be highly advantageous for site/client visits where needed.
