Location: DeKalb, IL
Shift: Second Shift | Monday–Thursday, 4:15 PM – 2:45 AM
Pay Rate: $20.71/hour + $1.25/hour shift premium = $21.96/hour

Summary Description

The Packer II is responsible for inspecting, packing, labeling, and preparing finished thermoformed products according to customer specifications while maintaining established safety and quality standards.

In addition to performing all Packer I responsibilities, the Packer II serves as an experienced resource within the department by training other Packers, supporting work-order activities, troubleshooting packing-related issues, and assisting with specialized Medical Room jobs. This position works closely with the shift lead and other production team members to maintain safe, efficient, and accurate production operations.

What You’ll Be Doing

Packing & Production

- Review job orders to determine the correct quantity and size of corrugated materials required for each production run.
- Verify that all necessary materials are properly staged before packing begins.
- Visually inspect products and identify defects to help ensure finished goods meet established quality requirements.
- Pack finished goods according to customer specifications.
- Set scales for the first full box and monitor weights throughout production to identify fluctuations.
- Label and seal completed boxes and place them onto pallets.
- Complete required production documentation accurately and on time.
- Ensure proper machine guarding is in place to maintain a safe working environment.
- Position and properly identify reclaim carts according to established reclaim guidelines.
- Rotate and replace reclaim carts, pallets, and finished goods as needed throughout the production process.
- Remove scrap from machines and place it into designated reclaim carts.
- Monitor reclaim quality according to established reclaim procedures.
- Operate a pallet jack to safely move materials and finished goods.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area through daily housekeeping activities, including sweeping, mopping, removing debris, and other assigned tasks.

Packer II Responsibilities

- Train new and existing Packers to ensure they understand required packing processes, procedures, and expectations.
- Open, audit, and close work orders accurately.
- Provide coverage for other Packers during scheduled breaks.
- Assist Packers with initial product counts.
- Help determine appropriate box sizes for new production jobs.
- Troubleshoot packing and process-related issues for less experienced Packers.
- Provide guidance and support to team members when questions or issues arise.
- Pack products for Medical Room jobs according to applicable requirements.
- Support the shift lead and production team with additional responsibilities as assigned.

- You can work effectively as part of a fast-paced manufacturing team.
