This role leads industrial environmental EPC projects across the Western United States, with an initial focus on industrial facility restart, decommissioning, environmental construction, and remediation activities in Southern California. The Industrial EPC Project Manager serves as the commercial and delivery owner of assigned projects, taking full responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, contracts, procurement, subcontractor management, forecasting, risk, and overall project execution strategy. The position is designed for an industrial construction-focused project manager, not a traditional environmental consulting project manager, and offers the opportunity to help build a sustainable regional EPC practice and transition into a long-term leadership role as the West Coast business grows.
Responsibilities
- Manage EPC construction projects from planning through execution, ensuring alignment with project objectives, client expectations, and organizational standards.
- Own project financial performance by developing, managing, and tracking project budgets, forecasts, cost controls, and invoicing for projects typically valued between $1M and $10M+.
- Administer contracts by negotiating and managing prime contracts, subcontractor agreements, purchase orders, and change orders to protect commercial interests.
- Lead procurement activities, including sourcing, evaluating, and selecting subcontractors and vendors, and managing ongoing supplier relationships.
- Oversee subcontractors and vendor performance, including coordination of self-perform construction activities, to ensure safety, quality, schedule adherence, and cost control.
- Manage project risk by identifying, assessing, and mitigating contractual, commercial, financial, and execution risks throughout the project lifecycle.
- Lead change management by developing, pricing, negotiating, and tracking change orders and variations, ensuring accurate forecasting and commercial alignment.
- Coordinate internal project teams, including construction managers, engineers, and other stakeholders, to align on project execution strategy and deliverables.
- Partner closely with Construction Managers to ensure successful field execution, constructability review, and alignment between office planning and site implementation.
- Lead client-facing project discussions, including regular progress meetings, status updates, and issue resolution, while maintaining strong client relationships.
- Develop staffing plans and resource forecasts to ensure appropriate allocation of project personnel and to support future workload planning.
- Utilize Microsoft Project and Autodesk Construction Cloud to plan, schedule, track, and report on project progress, resources, and deliverables.
- Ensure successful project delivery by meeting scope, schedule, budget, safety, quality, and client satisfaction targets.
- Support business development by identifying future opportunities, contributing to proposals, and helping to expand regional EPC capabilities and project pipeline.
- Support regional growth initiatives by helping to build a sustainable West Coast EPC delivery organization and participating in capacity-building efforts.
- Participate in project planning, including defining execution strategies, reviewing contracts, developing forecasts, and contributing to commercial discussions.
- Establish and maintain strong working relationships with clients, contractors, engineers, and operations personnel in both field and office environments.
- Assume full ownership of project financials, forecasting, client communication, subcontractor management, procurement, and change management within the first 60 days.
- Operate independently as the Project Manager for assigned projects within the first 90 days, driving project financial performance and supporting future EPC pursuits.
- Travel regionally throughout California, Washington, Utah, and Colorado as projects arise, while maintaining a strong presence at the primary project site during initial execution.
Essential Skills
- Demonstrated industrial project management experience in EPC, design-build, industrial construction, petrochemical, refinery, manufacturing, utility, water/wastewater, or similar heavy-industrial environments.
- Proven project financial ownership, including budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and invoicing for projects typically in the $1M to $10M+ range.
- Strong contract administration experience, including negotiation and management of prime contracts, subcontracts, and related commercial documents.
- Expertise in forecasting and cost control, with the ability to track and manage project financial performance and adjust plans as needed.
- Subcontractor management experience, including selection, oversight, performance evaluation, and coordination of multiple subcontractors and vendors.
- Procurement management experience, including sourcing, purchasing, and managing materials, equipment, and services for industrial projects.
- Change order management experience, including development, pricing, negotiation, documentation, and tracking of changes.
- Commercial risk management skills, including identification, assessment, and mitigation of contractual and financial risks.
- Client relationship management experience, with a proven ability to lead client-facing discussions, manage expectations, and resolve issues.
- Industrial construction execution experience, including familiarity with field operations, constructability, and coordination with construction managers.
- Experience managing projects in industrial facilities, such as manufacturing plants, refineries, utilities, or similar environments.
- Ability to manage contractual and commercial risk while balancing project delivery, client satisfaction, and financial performance.
- Experience managing subcontractors, vendors, and self-perform construction activities in an industrial setting.
- Strong experience with project financials, including budgeting, forecasting, invoicing, and cost controls.
- Experience leading client-facing project meetings and communications.
- Willingness to work fully onsite at an industrial facility and support regional West Coast travel as future projects develop.
- Comfort operating in both field and office environments and partnering closely with construction managers to evaluate constructability, project risk, contractor performance, and project execution.
- General contractor experience in industrial or heavy construction environments, or equivalent industrial EPC experience.
- Owner’s representative experience is acceptable only when it includes direct responsibility for project financials, subcontractor management, procurement, contract administration, change orders, and project risk.
- Proficiency using Microsoft Project for project planning, scheduling, and tracking.
- Proficiency using Autodesk Construction Cloud for project execution, coordination, and documentation.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Environmental remediation experience, particularly on industrial sites, is preferred but secondary to industrial construction and commercial project ownership experience.
- Experience with decommissioning projects, including industrial facility shutdown and restart activities.
- Experience with demolition projects in industrial or heavy construction environments.
- Experience with groundwater treatment systems in industrial or environmental settings.
- Experience with industrial wastewater systems and related treatment processes.
- Experience with utility infrastructure, including industrial utilities and related systems.
- Experience with landfill gas systems and associated infrastructure.
- Experience with industrial piping systems in manufacturing, petrochemical, or utility environments.
- Background in environmental remediation, decommissioning, demolition, petrochemical, refining, manufacturing, industrial utilities, water/wastewater treatment, power generation, or facility restart projects.
- Experience with industrial wastewater and environmental construction projects.
- Familiarity with change management processes in complex industrial EPC or construction projects.
- Experience in the petrochemical or refinery industries, including exposure to heavy industrial project environments.
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial facility operations and projects.
- Experience in water and wastewater treatment facilities or power generation projects.
- Facility restart experience, including planning and executing restart activities in industrial environments.
- General contractor experience in industrial construction is highly preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree is preferred but not required, particularly in engineering, construction management, or a related discipline.
- HAZWOPER certification is beneficial for working in environmental remediation and industrial sites.
- OSHA 30 or OSHA 40 training is beneficial for working safely in industrial construction and remediation environments.
- Experience using Autodesk software, including Autodesk Construction Cloud, for project collaboration and documentation.
- Interest in long-term growth opportunities within a developing West Coast EPC organization, including future leadership responsibilities.
- Ability to support business development, including identifying future opportunities, supporting proposals, and contributing to regional growth initiatives.
Work Environment
The role is based in an industrial manufacturing facility environment, focused on environmental remediation, restart, decommissioning, and construction projects. The primary project location is in Garden Grove, California, and candidates should live within a reasonable commuting distance of the Orange County/Los Angeles market. The position is fully onsite, with daily site presence expected during initial project execution. The work environment combines field presence and office-based project management responsibilities, requiring frequent interaction with contractors, engineers, and operations personnel. The setting involves environmental construction and remediation activities, where the Project Manager partners closely with Construction Managers to evaluate constructability, project risk, contractor performance, and overall project execution. Professional construction attire is expected in the field and on site. Initially, the role requires daily onsite work at the Garden Grove facility. Over the longer term, the position is expected to involve approximately 60% work from a home base and 40% travel, with regional travel throughout California, Washington, Utah, and Colorado as projects arise. Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $67.00 - $86.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
