Microbiology Lab Technician

Job Title: Lab Technician Offers Full Benefits Job Description This entry-level lab technician role focuses on microbiology and quality control testing in a regulated GMP environment, with responsibilities split between laboratory duties and autoclave sterilization requalification. The position emphasizes routine, repetitive testing such as pH, conductivity, solution-related work, autoclaving, and glassware cleaning, while providing exposure to medical device and pharmaceutical (biologics and drugs) testing across the manufacturing process. The role offers hands-on experience with entry-level instrumentation and laboratory systems, supporting both production quality and compliance activities. Responsibilities

- Perform biological, chemical and physical testing on pharmaceutical products, medical devices and related materials from incoming raw materials through in-process and final products.
- Conduct testing on samples collected from environmental monitoring programs at manufacturing facilities.
- Set up test apparatus and conduct tests on production processes and products to ensure methods, procedures, standards and sequences of operations comply with legal, regulatory and internal policies.
- Carry out routine laboratory tasks including pH and conductivity measurements, solution preparation, autoclaving and glassware cleaning.
- Use laboratory instrumentation and computer systems, including LIMS, to collect, record and review data accurately and in a timely manner.
- Perform assays that require precise analytical skills and a solid understanding of biology and chemistry principles.
- Complete all assigned testing, including special project and protocol testing, within required timelines and according to procedures.
- Maintain data integrity and ensure compliance with SOPs, specifications and applicable regulations such as FDA, GLP, QSR and cGMP.
- Write exception documents and support documentation for deviations, out-of-specification and out-of-limit results as needed.
- Participate in cross-functional team activities that impact production, increase efficiency, solve problems, generate cost savings and improve quality.
- Perform laboratory and manufacturing audits as required, and assist in auditing and updating plant SOPs.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Microbiology, Biology, Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Understanding of aseptic techniques or biological testing, which may be gained through college coursework.
- Knowledge of microbiological tests such as endotoxin testing, bioburden testing and sterility testing.
- Ability to apply microbiology and biology principles in a laboratory and quality control setting.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate, detailed notes and logs.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Familiarity with cGMP environments and practices.
- Prior exposure to medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing and testing.
- Experience with environmental monitoring programs, including EM readings and water collection.
- Knowledge of autoclave sterilization processes and requalification activities.
- Experience with pipette calibration checks and reagent preparation.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of SAINT PAUL, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $22.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
