Horizon offers programs for children 6 weeks to 14 years of age. Our Mission: to provide high-quality early childhood education, care and youth development programs. Horizon Education Centers proudly serves a range of communities in Cleveland, Elyria, Lorain, North Olmsted, Berea, Parma and Lakewood. These primary communities are at the heart of our commitment to early childhood education. The Community Services Department is a division of HEC that operates a Comprehensive Literacy program, and two community collaboratives powered by the United Way: Ready, Set, Go to Kindergarten (RSG) and South Side Pride (SSP).

Community Support Specialist

Location : Administration Headquarters, North Olmsted, Ohio (local travel required)

Wage Information : Part-time, in-office, hourly position 25 hours per week; pay rate of $15.50 per hour (October 5th, this position will have a pay rate of $16.00 per hour)

Hours : 9am - 2pm Monday through Friday (some flexibility allowed)

Reports to : Community Services Director

Job Description:

Will primarily be involved with the work of the RSG and SSP Collaboratives

- Monitors and posts on blogs, social media for the collaboratives

- Assists with outreach and promotion through social media and attendance at community events

- Creates flyers as needed for programs and events

- Participates and takes minutes at monthly Steering Committee meetings for SSP and RSG

- Create monthly newsletter for the RSG collaborative

- Promotes, plans, and delivers monthly playgroups for children ages 2-5

- Plans, assembles, and delivers monthly kinder kits

- Assist with monthly data collection for collaborative reports

- Ensures that the Pioneer Freedge is stocked and cleaned at least weekly. Facilitates and/or delivers food from local partners.

- May require frequent lifting and carrying of larger items, including but not limited to deliveries

- All other duties as needed/assigned

Qualifications

Qualifications:

- High school diploma or equivalent is required

- Willingness to travel between Lorain and Cuyahoga Counties; must have reliable transportation

- Knowledge of child development and planning age-appropriate activities

- Willingness to update job knowledge with required training, professional development opportunities, and industry trends

- Has the ability to build positive relationships with coworkers, families, vendors, and the community through prompt and accurate response and service, cheerful and professional attitude, and problem-solving spirit

- Must have strong interpersonal and customer service skills; and be able to expertly deal with internal and external individuals in a positive manner

- Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

- Must be able to multitask and have strong detail-oriented, time management, and organizational skills

- Must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively as an active part of a team

- Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, and other software programs; graphic design familiarity is a plus

- We seek someone who is prompt and reliable and who possesses a genuine love of children

- Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 40 lbs. as required

- Must be able to pass background checks and physical/ medical screening as required
