Senior Center Bus Transporter

Organizational Overview: The Stanley M. Isaacs Neighborhood Center (Isaacs Center) is a non-profit, multi-service organization focusing primarily on the needs of children and low-income families, out-of-school and out-of-work youth, and aging New Yorkers. We operate at community centers located in the neighborhoods of East Harlem and Yorkville, and seek to deliver programs that are impactful, innovative, and intergenerational. Goddard Riverside Community Center (GRCC) is a well-established Manhattan community-based agency. GRCC is one of New York Citys leading human service organizations meeting the basic needs of children, youth, and families, homeless people, and older adults through 25-plus programs at 22 sites across Manhattan.

Position Summary: Isaacs Center and Goddard Riverside Community Center is seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Driver to operate a 12-passenger minibus for the transportation of older adults, community members, and other authorized personnel. The Driver will provide safe, efficient, and courteous transportation to and from the Senior Center, other Isaacs Center and Goddard Riverside locations, and various program-related destinations.

The Driver is responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable NYC Aging requirements and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. This position requires a strong commitment to passenger safety, vehicle maintenance, and exceptional customer service.

Schedule: 35 hours per week (8:00am-4:00pm)

Hourly Rate: $25.00/hr

Candidates must have the required qualifications to be considered for the position. The salary offer will be based on the candidates number of years experience in the exact or comparable position and additional preferred qualifications will be taken into account.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Education/Skills/Experience:

- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

- Experience operating passenger vehicles, minibuses, or similar transportation vehicles preferred.

- Ability to safely assist older adults and individuals with mobility limitations.

- Knowledge of vehicle safety procedures, defensive driving techniques, and DOT regulations.

- Ability to maintain required records and complete transportation reports.

- Strong interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.

- Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional evenings or weekends, as needed.

Primary Duties:

- Safely operate a 12-passenger minibus along designated routes and schedules.

- Transport older adults, community members, and authorized personnel to and from program locations and activities.

- Conduct and document pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the vehicle is safe and roadworthy.

- Adhere to all traffic laws, safety regulations, organizational policies, and NYC Aging transportation standards.

- Assist passengers with boarding and exiting the vehicle, including those using wheelchairs, walkers, or other mobility aids.

- Properly secure wheelchairs and mobility devices in accordance with safety regulations.

- Reinforce passenger safety rules and maintain a safe environment while transporting participants.

- Maintain the cleanliness and overall condition of the vehicle, ensuring it remains free of debris and hazards.

- Coordinate and transport the vehicle for inspections, repairs, routine maintenance, and servicing as needed.

- Promptly report accidents, incidents, vehicle issues, or safety concerns to management.

- Maintain accurate transportation logs, mileage records, and other required documentation.

- Provide courteous and professional customer service to all passengers and stakeholders.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

- Wash, sweep, clean and fuel buses

- Transport vehicles to and from vendors for repairs.

- Must follow funder, agency, and department policies and attend mandatory agency and funder training.
