Wage range: $44.03 to $56.50 + an additional $9/hour CASA Classrooms premium
Vacation: 4.18 hours, accrued bi-weekly
Shift structure: Monday to Friday, 7.25 hours per day
Primary location: Calgary
Union: In-Scope

FTE: 1.0 for the duration of the school year
Status : Temporary until June 2027

About the Role
CASA Mental Health Classrooms are CASA’s model for school-based mental health service. The program addresses the need for services closer to students by bridging a child’s mental health and school needs, through a coordinated approach by a mental health team and a teacher. CASA Mental Health Classrooms are delivered in partnership with the Government of Alberta, community partners and school divisions.

The Mental Health Therapist will:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of assigned children and youth, and in conjunction with the primary team, develop individualized and family treatment plans.
- Develop a treatment plan and formulate a diagnosis, when applicable, using the DSM-5-TR or other diagnostic tools as appropriate.
- Provide therapeutic interventions to support the patient in achieving therapeutic goals utilizing a variety of developmentally-appropriate treatment approaches.
- Arrange and facilitate transition meetings with community schools prior to patient’s discharge from program.
- Complete written discharge summaries to referring Therapist and Psychiatrist after discharge to support continuity of care for patient and family.
- Be an active, contributing member of an interprofessional clinical team whose purpose is assessment, treatment, case review and consultation.
- Follow agency policy and practice regarding admission, discharge and maintenance of health records.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate Parent Support Groups and Multi-Family Therapy Groups. Groups are psycho-educational and/or psychodynamic in context, utilizing a variety of evidence-based therapeutic modalities (DBT, CBT, motivational interviewing, etc.).
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated ability to practice culturally safe therapeutic interventions.
- Excellent assessment, treatment and case management skills.
- Training and clinical experience working with families and Children and Family Services will be an asset.
- Strong critical thinking skills.
- Knowledge and experience in cognitive behavioural therapy, family interventions and crisis intervention.
- Training and experience in dialectical behavioural therapy is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work autonomously and independently, and to prioritize work activities.
- Demonstrated analytic and problem-solving ability.
- Ability to work and to communicate in a cooperative and respective manner with all staff.
- Advanced skills with MS Office products including application to formal writing.
Qualifications and Experience
- Master’s degree in psychology, social work (with psycho-social intervention designation), occupational therapy or nursing.
- A minimum of two years of clinical practice in child and family mental health and/or youth addictions.
- Member in good standing with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT), Alberta College of Social Workers (ACSW) or College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).
- Must maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA) and be physically able to perform all interventions.
Conditions of Employment
- A satisfactory Criminal Records Check with Vulnerable Sector Search. This would be the financial responsibility of the successful candidate.
- A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
