PSYCHIATRIC MENTAL HEALTH NP

SUMMARY:

Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners, also known as Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioners (PMHNP), play a special role in healthcare. Although not a Medical Doctor, this type of advanced practice nurse takes on a similar role to a Psychiatrist, help patients struggling with mental health illnesses such as Anxiety, Depression, PTSD, Mood disorders, substance abuse issues, Postpartum Depression, and more. On top of standard registered nurse training, Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners earn additional licensing and certifications in order to be qualified to offer specialized care to patients with mental health illnesses.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :

- Provides initial psychosocial assessments, patient diagnosis, and treatment for individual, families and groups.

- Performs and gives psychotherapy for the treatment of conditions.

- Prescribes medications and consults with Psychiatrist as needed

- Adjusts medication and treatment plans for patients.

- Is up to date with new medicines and treatments .

- Maintains proper documentation in the patients chart within EMR.

- Assesses community needs as related to the scope of services and recommends program changes addressing these needs.

- Recommends program planning and development approach that promotes behavioral services continuum for the provision of services in Alivio Medical Center.

- Participates and provides input in marketing and outreach efforts with federal, state and local agencies.

- Performs other related duties as assigned.

This position requires compliance with all of Alivios written standards, including its Standards of Conduct, Joint Commission standards, all policies and procedures and C orporate C ompliance requirements. Compliance will be considered as part of the regular performance evaluation.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages and supervises staff listed below, including hiring, training, evaluating and managing performance to meet departmental efficiency and performance measures in keeping with the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), Personnel Policies and Procedures and prevailing employment laws as appropriate.

Qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS:

OSHA Category 3 – Involves no regular exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, and tasks that involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues are not a condition of employment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Master or Bachelor Degree in Nursing and graduate of an accredited Masters Bachelors Degree Program

Licensure:

Registration in the State of Illinois. Board certification as PMHNP from a specialty nursing board at time of hire.

Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred

Knowledge of computer system and ability to accurately input necessary information

Knowledge of federally qualified health center rules/regulations

Ability to work with diverse populations and knowledge of multi-ethnic cultures

Knowledge of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of the American Psychiatric Association
