Mechanical Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description The Mechanical Engineer designs, develops, and tests mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for electrical power distribution products such as switchboards and panelboards. This role focuses on creating detailed 3D CAD models, manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials to support both new product development and sustaining engineering efforts for electrical distribution equipment used in high-demand environments, including data centers. Responsibilities

- Design mechanical components, assemblies, and enclosures for electrical distribution equipment such as switchboards and panelboards.
- Create and maintain 3D CAD models using SolidWorks for mechanical designs and product configurations.
- Develop accurate manufacturing drawings and bills of materials to support production and assembly processes.
- Support new product development initiatives for power distribution and control panel equipment when bringing relevant industry experience.
- Execute sustaining design projects to support manufacturing, including print revisions, design changes, and engineering change requests (ECRs) and engineering change orders (ECOs).
- Apply GD&T principles to ensure proper fit, form, and function of mechanical components and assemblies.
- Design sheet metal parts and assemblies suitable for fabrication, forming, and enclosure construction.
- Perform or utilize FEA or CFD analyses to validate mechanical designs and ensure structural integrity and thermal performance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure mechanical designs meet electrical, manufacturing, and quality requirements.
- Incorporate relevant standards, such as UL508A, into designs when applicable to ensure compliance with industry requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of existing products and processes through design optimization and engineering changes.
- Document design work thoroughly to support manufacturing, quality, and future design modifications.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, with openness to candidates holding an associate degree in a related field.
- 4+ years of experience with SolidWorks design, including 3D modeling and detailed mechanical drawings.
- 4+ years of experience implementing engineering changes or design changes, including ECRs and ECOs.
- 4+ years of experience with sheet metal design for mechanical components and enclosures.
- 4+ years of experience applying GD&T to mechanical drawings and designs.
- 4+ years of experience with FEA or CFD for evaluating mechanical or thermal performance.
- Strong mechanical engineering and mechanical design experience.
- Proficiency in designing mechanical components and assemblies for power distribution equipment.
- Experience with control panel and enclosure design.
- Ability to create accurate bills of materials and manufacturing documentation.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Familiarity with UL508A standards for industrial control panels is a significant plus.
- Experience with power distribution design, including switchboards, switchgear, and related equipment.
- Experienced in busbar and enclosure design for electrical distribution systems.
- Comfort working on both new product development and sustaining engineering projects.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-growing environment with a high volume of projects.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, manufacturable designs.

Work Environment This role is based in the Dane office with a hybrid work arrangement. The Mechanical Engineer typically works onsite three days per week and may work remotely on other days, depending on business needs. The environment supports rapid growth and a steady flow of projects, particularly for data center-related power distribution products. Work is primarily office-based, using SolidWorks and other engineering tools to collaborate with design, manufacturing, and engineering teams in a dynamic and project-driven setting.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Dane, WI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $50.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
