About this role
The Superintendent plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises daily field operations of multiple projects and Foremen to ensure completion on time, within budget, and at the highest safety, quality, and customer service levels.
Core Responsibilities
General Responsibilities (All Trades)
- Plan, organize, and coordinate day-to-day field activities on assigned project(s) per project schedule
- Direct and lead work of all field employees and Foremen; delegate responsibilities as needed
- Implement project schedule; forecast daily activities; proactively coordinate with subcontractors on timing
- Maintain and inspect quality control; inspect work for compliance with company, construction documents, and manufacturer standards
- Oversee all safety compliance and protocols; ensure PPE enforcement, scaffold inspections, fall protection, equipment safety, and weekly safety tailgate meetings
- Complete JHAs (Job Hazard Analyses) and review with crews for each project
- Participate in company Safety Program; coordinate with HR on incident documentation and follow-up
- Price check and purchase materials; maintain stock of project-specified materials; ensure emergency supplies before inclement weather
- Enforce company policies and procedures professionally; report and document incidents to HR and supervisor immediately
- Submit all personnel information/forms to HR in a timely manner
- Conduct employee performance reviews and provide feedback as needed
- Participate in new hire interviews; coordinate new hire orientations with HR
- Respond to and solve on-site problems promptly (material delays, quality issues, safety concerns, client concerns)
- Manage crew hour tracking; clock in/out personnel; confirm crew hours weekly
- Coordinate with Project Manager and Project Coordinator weekly on open administrative tasks (RFIs, budgets, projections, RFCs, billings, submittals)
- Interpret, clarify, and prepare construction documents as needed
- Collaborate with Project Manager and Project Coordinator on billing projections, project reviews, and change order documentation
- Collaborate with Project Coordinator on RFIs, change orders, submittals, and closeout documents
- Ensure work phone is accessible for emergency response calls; assist with crew dispatch and emergency material pickup
- Maintain effective, professional communication (written/verbal) with Foremen, crews, clients, subcontractors, Project Manager, and Project Coordinator
- Report weather delays and any project impacts to Project Manager
- Supervise and coordinate field crews and Foremen from multiple trades; manage task sequencing and workflow across different skilled trades on assigned projects
Trade-Specific Responsibilities
- [Carpenter]: Oversee framing sequence, layout coordination, and carpentry material specifications
- [Painter]: Coordinate surface preparation schedules, paint selection, and finish quality inspection
- [Lather]: Manage EIFS staging, metal framing material flow, and installation coordination
- [Plasterer]: Coordinate drywall and plastering sequences; manage compound supply and finish standard
Qualifications
Qualifications Required
- High school diploma or GED
- Minimum 5+ years construction field experience or related supervisory role
- Valid CA driver's license; insurable driving record
- Must pass background check, drug test, and reference check
- Ability to perform physical demands below
- Advanced knowledge of construction practices, project management, specifications, and building codes
- Proficiency reading and interpreting advanced construction documents, plans, JHAs, RFIs, RFCs, and budgets
- Experience with project scheduling, cost control, material procurement, and subcontractor coordination
- Safe operation of hand tools, power tools, and equipment; able to traverse ladders, scaffolding, roofs
- Ability to lift and move up to 100 lbs
- Advanced math skills (fractions, percentages, ratios, proportions) for budgeting and problem-solving
- English fluency (verbal/written) sufficient to provide instruction, communicate hazards, manage documentation, and coordinate with clients
- Knowledge of safety protocols, OSHA requirements, incident investigation, and basic HR compliance
- Experience with Microsoft Office, Excel, and project management/scheduling software
- Strong leadership, decision-making, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to conduct performance reviews and provide constructive feedback
Preferred
- Bilingual Spanish/English
- Residential, HOA, and multi-unit renovation project experience
- Waterproofing systems knowledge and coordination experience
- Trade-specific certifications (OSHA 10 or 30-hour, lead certification, etc.)
- Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
- Project management certification or equivalent training
- Experience with submittals, RFIs, change orders, and client negotiations
- HR or personnel management training
Physical Demands, Work Environment & Travel
- Frequent travel to assigned jobsites across multiple locations (approximately 30–40%)
- Frequent standing, walking on uneven/sloped terrain
- Frequent climbing (ladders, scaffolding, stairs); working at heights; elevated platforms
- Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching
- Frequent lifting/carrying materials, tools, equipment up to 50 lbs; occasional 75–100 lbs with assistance
- Push/pull objects using upper body strength
- Response to alarms, signals, and verbal direction in high-noise environments
- Exposure to dust, fumes, chemicals, and jobsite hazards; use of PPE/respirators
- Exposure to temperature extremes, weather (rain, wind, sun)
- Balance/coordination on uneven surfaces and at heights
- Tolerance for loud noise levels and jobsite activity
- Occasional early-start/extended-shift schedules; emergency response calls; after-hours availability
- Tolerance for outdoor and indoor work in all weather conditions
