Engineering Program Manager, Terafab

You will be a key member of the Terafab infrastructure team, serving as Design Manager for Tesla's semiconductor-scale site. You lead design and engineering of Terafab facilities at record speed, converting the Technical Program Manager's plan of record and master plan into packages factory engineering and construction can execute. Tesla operates in a demanding, fast-paced environment that requires a highly motivated self-starter with a strong bias for action. You will synthesize complex, ambiguous requirements across datacenters, power generation, logistics, central utility plants, and chemical and gas systems into clear scopes, KO / 30 / 60 / 90, and IFB / IFP / IFC deliverables. You will foster collaboration across IT, manufacturing, industrial engineering, infrastructure engineering, and construction so launch plans are well-defined and delivered against aggressive program goals. This role starts at Gigafactory Texas (Austin) for the first six months, then relocates to the permanent Terafab site in Grimes County, Texas. The ideal candidate has demonstrated semiconductor facility design and engineering for large-scale manufacturing, and can influence stakeholders from senior leaders to junior staff.

- Support the Infrastructure Technical Program Manager, Terafab by converting the plan of record, site master plan, and major scope sequencing into executable design and engineering packages. Lead the full design and engineering of Terafab facilities from concept through production launch, ensuring alignment with aggressive program objectives and the TPM plan of record
- Own KO, 30/60/90, IFB, IFP, and IFC package definition, development, and issuance for datacenters, power generation, logistics, central utility plants, and chemical/gas systems. Gather and develop a deep understanding of stakeholder requirements to synthesize complex inputs into actionable engineering scopes and priorities
- Develop comprehensive engineering project plans, secure leadership alignment, and communicate infrastructure design scope clearly to internal and external engineering teams. Drive formation of internal and external engineering teams, including managing third-party consultant contracts, budgets, and design strategies
- Own execution of high-quality engineering deliverables essential for procurement, costing, permitting, and construction. Develop and own detailed engineering program schedules, and proactively identify and mitigate dependencies, risks, and information gaps
- Lead technical deep dives, process safety studies, options analysis, feasibility exercises, and value engineering to support informed TPM and leadership decisions. Own cross-functional design reviews (2D and 3D) and engineering management of change for the program
- Support TPM funding requests, construction administration, and project status reporting on progress, actions, and risks. Start at Gigafactory Texas to stand up design packages and consultant teams, then relocate to Grimes County, Texas to execute semiconductor facility design through construction and production readiness
- Proactively identify opportunities for continuous improvement in factory engineering development and drive their implementation

- Bachelor's Degree in architecture, civil, mechanical, process/chemical, structural, or electrical engineering, or equivalent experience
- Demonstrated semiconductor facility design and engineering for large-scale manufacturing (process utilities, cleanroom-adjacent infrastructure, central plants, and chemical/gas systems). Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams within architectural/engineering firms or design-build firms
- Experience leading engineering for complex infrastructure: manufacturing, semiconductor, data center, power, logistics, and central plant systems. Full understanding of all engineering disciplines and demonstrated ability to manage engineering resources
- Proven record delivering KO, 30/60/90, IFB, IFP, and IFC packages. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to understand complex topics and distill the message clearly
- Design-build and pre-construction project management experience is a plus. Willing to start at Gigafactory Texas (Austin) for six months and relocate to the permanent site in Grimes County, Texas.
