Compensation : $65,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications

Overview

EF Academy is seeking a caring, organized, and School Nurse to provide health services to our diverse student population. The School Nurse will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating health services for the residential student population and maintaining the day-to-day operations of the Health Center. The role involves direct clinical care, medication management, health record management, coordination with families and outside healthcare providers, emergency response, student wellness, and collaboration with residential life, athletics, administration, and other school departments.

The ideal candidate will be compassionate, dependable, detail-oriented, comfortable working with adolescents, and able to remain calm and professional in a fast-paced school environment.

Professional Qualifications

Required:

- Current and unrestricted New York State Registered Professional Nurse (RN) license and registration.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Current CPR/AED and Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Nursing degree from an accredited nursing program.
- Professional nursing experience with demonstrated knowledge of health assessment, first aid, medication administration, and emergency response.
- Ability to assess and respond appropriately to acute illnesses, injuries, medical emergencies, and ongoing health conditions.
- Strong understanding of infection prevention and control, student health, and safe medication management.
- Ability to maintain accurate, confidential student health records and comply with applicable privacy, confidentiality, and regulatory requirements.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish trusting relationships with students, parents/guardians, faculty, staff, and healthcare providers.
- Ability to work effectively with adolescents and young adults in a diverse, multicultural, and international school community, including students living away from their families.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise sound professional judgment, remain calm in high-pressure situations, collaborate effectively with colleagues, and contribute to a safe, supportive, and student-centered school environment.

Preferred:

- 2 or more years of professional nursing experience, preferably in a school, pediatric, adolescent, community health, residential, or boarding-school setting.
- Experience working with international students, residential/boarding students, and families from diverse cultural backgrounds, including experience coordinating care with families and outside healthcare providers.

Key Responsibilities

Student Health Assessment and Clinical Care

- Assess and triage students presenting with illness, injury, or other health concerns and provide appropriate nursing care within professional scope and school policies.
- Provide first aid, basic treatment, health education, and ongoing monitoring for acute and chronic health conditions.
- Determine when students require care beyond the Health Center and coordinate appropriate referrals to primary care, urgent care, specialists, or emergency services.
- Provide follow-up care and monitor students following illness, injury, hospitalization, or outside medical treatment.
- Maintain accurate and confidential documentation of student health encounters, assessments, treatments, and follow-up.

Medication and Health Records Management

- Review, authorize, administer, secure, and document prescription and over-the-counter medications in accordance with provider orders, applicable regulations, and school policies.
- Maintain accurate student health records, including medical histories, immunizations, physical examinations, medications, treatment plans, restrictions, and medical clearances.
- Monitor medication inventory and documentation and communicate with families and healthcare providers regarding medication-related concerns or required information.
- Ensure student health information is maintained confidentially and in accordance with applicable privacy requirements and school policies.

Healthcare Coordination and Family Communication

- Coordinate student medical appointments, referrals, transportation, and follow-up care with healthcare providers and medical facilities as appropriate.
- Obtain and review medical records, treatment recommendations, restrictions, and return-to-activity documentation.
- Communicate professionally and compassionately with parents/guardians regarding significant illnesses, injuries, medications, medical appointments, and ongoing health concerns.
- Help international students navigate the U.S. healthcare system and provide culturally responsive support to students and families.
- Communicate relevant health information to appropriate school personnel while maintaining student confidentiality.

Emergency, Residential, and Athletic Health Support

- Respond to medical emergencies across campus, activate emergency services when necessary, and coordinate with EMS and outside healthcare providers.
- Maintain emergency preparedness procedures, equipment, AEDs, first-aid supplies, and other medical resources.
- Develop and maintain protocols for student health concerns and medication needs outside regular Health Center hours and provide guidance to residential staff.
- Assess and provide initial care for athletic injuries and collaborate with coaches, residential staff, and other school personnel regarding medical restrictions, treatment, and return-to-activity requirements.
- Provide or coordinate staff training related to first aid, emergency response, anaphylaxis, EpiPen administration, and other health emergencies.

Health Promotion and School Collaboration

- Promote student health and wellness through health education, preventive care, and individualized guidance on topics such as nutrition, hydration, sleep, illness prevention, and stress management.
- Identify emerging or recurring health concerns and communicate relevant information to school leadership.
- Collaborate with Residential Life, Athletics, Counseling, Academic staff, School Leadership, families, and healthcare providers to support student health, safety, and well-being.
- Participate in school-wide health, wellness, safety, and emergency preparedness initiatives.

Health Center Operations and Professional Practice

- Oversee the safe, organized, and effective daily operation of the Health Center, including supplies, equipment, medications, documentation, and clinical workflows.
- Develop, implement, and evaluate Health Center policies, procedures, and protocols to promote consistent and high-quality care.
- Identify opportunities to improve student safety, continuity of care, and Health Center operations.
- Maintain current professional licensure and certifications and participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Perform other health-related responsibilities as assigned by school administration.

- Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience and qualifications
