Mechanical Engineer

Job Title: Mechanical Engineer Job Description The Mechanical Engineer designs and supports complex mechanical systems and products from concept through full life cycle, with a strong focus on SolidWorks-based design and design for manufacturing. This role performs detailed mechanical design, ensures compliance with specifications and safety standards, and collaborates closely with operations, manufacturing, and production engineering teams. The position also involves client-facing work, troubleshooting in the field, and contributing to new product development in areas such as power distribution, data centers, and oil field equipment. Responsibilities

- Perform detailed mechanical design using SolidWorks, including creating 3D models, 2D drawings, schematics, finite element analyses (FEAs), engineering calculations, and testing documentation.
- Develop assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and design change documentation to support manufacturing and product lifecycle needs.
- Ensure all mechanical designs meet project specifications, industry standards, safety requirements, and overall project scope.
- Lead mechanical design efforts on assigned projects and provide technical support and guidance to other engineers and designers.
- Review, check, and approve mechanical designs and drawing libraries to maintain accuracy, consistency, and quality.
- Identify mechanical and technical risks in designs and communicate these clearly to engineering leadership for mitigation and planning.
- Coordinate closely with operations, manufacturing, production engineering, and other departments to ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing and that information flows efficiently.
- Support onsite customer technical needs, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and resolving mechanical issues in the field.
- Select mechanical components and parts with attention to cost, availability, and lifecycle considerations, including obsolescence and long-term support.
- Track and monitor design costs as projects progress and report status updates to engineering and project management teams.
- Contribute to new product development initiatives, including designing products from scratch and expanding existing product lines.
- Support full product life cycle activities, from initial design and prototyping through build, commissioning, and ongoing engineering support.
- Collaborate with client-facing teams and participate in customer discussions to understand technical requirements and provide engineering input.
- Manage and execute 1–2 concurrent projects, maintaining high quality and meeting timelines across design and manufacturing phases.

Essential Skills

- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering roles involving detailed design and product development.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with SolidWorks for 3D modeling and 2D drafting.
- 5+ years of experience using AutoCAD for mechanical design and documentation.
- Proven expertise in design for manufacturing, including collaboration with manufacturing and production teams.
- 3+ years of experience working in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong experience in power distribution, power generation, and protective relay-related mechanical systems.
- Experience with new product development, including designing products from concept through full life cycle.
- Ability to perform and interpret FEAs, engineering calculations, and testing documentation for mechanical designs.
- Demonstrated ability to lead mechanical design efforts and review, check, and approve mechanical drawings.
- Ability to identify and communicate mechanical and technical risks effectively.
- Strong troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills for mechanical systems in field and customer environments.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with data center and microgrid-related mechanical systems and power distribution equipment.
- Experience working with applicable product lines such as skids, pumps, generators, fracking equipment, oil field equipment, blenders, data bands, and sand conveyors.
- Experience in environments that generate significant revenue through organic growth and new product development.
- Comfort working on client-facing projects, including supporting commissioning and service issues.
- Ability to manage design costs and provide clear project status reporting to engineering and project management.
- Adaptability to work across office, shop floor, and customer sites as project phases and needs change.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills for cross-functional work with operations, manufacturing, and production engineering teams.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Houston, TX.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $57.69 - $62.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
