Job Title: Quality Engineer Job Description
The Quality Engineer will review, validate, and improve quality documentation and procedures while supporting the transition of completed and ongoing work. This role focuses on ensuring that all testing, inspections, and records meet contract requirements and align with established quality systems and standards.
Responsibilities
- Review work package documentation for previous and current projects to ensure completeness, accuracy, and compliance with quality requirements.
- Validate that all necessary testing and required documentation, such as visual inspections, magnetic particle inspections, and other nondestructive examinations, are clearly outlined and properly recorded.
- Update existing quality procedures to determine ongoing applicability, identify what needs to be retained, revised, or removed, and renumber documents as needed for clarity and consistency.
- Review and manage documentation related to welding inspections and reports, nondestructive testing (NDT), welding procedure specifications (WPS), and procedure qualification records (PQR).
- Support purchase order reviews to ensure that all contract and customer quality requirements are clearly captured and met.
- Collaborate with project and shop personnel to clarify documentation needs, resolve quality-related issues, and support continuous improvement of quality processes.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of quality procedures and documentation systems to strengthen overall quality assurance practices.
- Participate in or support internal and supplier quality audits as needed to verify adherence to ISO and AS9100 quality systems.
Essential Skills
- Experience in quality assurance with a focus on inspection and review of project documentation.
- Broad understanding of quality processes, documentation control, and procedure development.
- Approximately 5+ years of experience in quality is ideal for this role.
- Understanding of formal quality management systems, including ISO and AS9100 standards.
- Strong computer skills and proficiency in working with digital documentation and records.
- Ability to interpret technical documentation such as welding inspection reports, NDT records, WPS, and PQR.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and updating quality documentation.
- Effective communication skills to work with office and shop personnel on quality-related matters.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with QA auditing, either as a supplier auditor or internal auditor, is highly desirable.
- Lead auditor experience is considered a significant plus.
- Prior experience in a fabrication or manufacturing environment is beneficial.
- Familiarity with contract review and purchase order quality requirements is advantageous.
Work Environment
This position is based onsite at a fabrication shop in Clackamas, OR. The Quality Engineer will primarily work in an office setting with regular interaction on the shop floor to review work packages, inspections, and documentation with production personnel. The environment combines administrative documentation work with hands-on engagement in an active fabrication facility, requiring comfort moving between office and shop areas and collaborating closely with operations and quality teams.

This is a Contract position based out of Clackamas, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $33.00 - $48.08/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
