Evening Shift Team Leader/Event Support Coordinator

Porter-Gaud School is an Episcopal, independent, coeducational day school with 1,650 students in preschool through 12th grade.

This position reports directly to the Assistant Director of Facilities for Services and works closely with other Facilities employees. This is a 12-month, full-time non-exempt position with benefits including health insurance, paid leave, school-provided lunch, and availability of 403(b) retirement plan.

Duties include working with and leading a team of evening shift custodians to accomplish the tasks assigned and to provide support for events when requested or scheduled.

Other duties may include counseling and training evening shift employees.

Flexibility is essential. This position will/may be required to work when the School is closed which may include holidays, weekends and extended hours in summer.

Availability to attend events at any/all of the three Porter-Gaud/O'Quinn campuses, during both regular and off work hours is required.

Specific Duties Include:

- Serves as backup to the Assistant Director of Facilities-Services, as needed.

- Serves as a working team leader with direct responsibility for an assigned floor, building, or specific campus area. Performs hands-on custodial duties within the assigned area, ensures established cleaning and maintenance standards are met, and provides direction and support to other team members as needed.

- Coordinates and provides hands-on Facilities-Services support for campus events, including parent-related events, after-hours events, athletic events, Head of School events, and other special activities. Responsibilities include reviewing event needs, coordinating setup and placement of furniture and equipment, ensuring event spaces are clean and ready before the event, providing support during the event as needed, and completing timely resets and cleanup afterward. Communicates with School personnel and event organizers to ensure Facilities-Services needs and expectations are understood and met.

- Assists with maintaining supplies, equipment, and materials for the Evening Facilities-Services team.

- Assists with implementing and maintaining sustainability and recycling programs within Facilities-Services.

- Oversees the Evening Facilities-Services team's completion of daily tasks, including restroom cleaning, floor care, classroom cleaning, trash removal, and other assigned duties.

- Communicates operational issues, facility concerns, and other needs that arise during the completion of daily tasks.

- Works with and provides direction to assigned team members in completing work orders, event setups, and event resets across campus.

- Coordinates with other School personnel to determine the appropriate level of Facilities-Services support for recurring and special events.

- Provides input and feedback to the Assistant Director of Facilities-Services regarding the performance of Evening Facilities-Services team members, including annual performance evaluations.

- Delegates tasks effectively and efficiently based on team members' skills, experience, and workload.

- Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations and established safety procedures.

- Ensures compliance with department policies, procedures, and expectations, as outlined in the Employee Handbook.

- Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Facilities-Services and/or Director of Facilities.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate information and expectations both verbally and in writing.

- Ability to motivate and support team members while maintaining a positive and productive work environment, including during challenging shifts or high-demand periods.

- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to follow established directions, policies, and procedures.

- Ability to clearly communicate work expectations, schedules, priorities, and procedures to team members.

- Experience coaching, supervising, leading, and/or mentoring employees preferred.

- Experience working in a school or similar institutional environment is preferred.

- Hands-on experience with floor care, including routine floor cleaning and maintenance procedures.

- Ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks while responding effectively to changing operational needs.

- Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, vendors, and other School personnel.

Minimum Job Qualifications:

- 4+ years experience in a K-12 educational setting /commercial cleaning /hospitality/ health industry.

- High School Diploma preferred, but not required.

Physical requirements:

- Frequently lifting 5-10 pounds, occasionally lifting 25 pounds.

- Continuously demands vision, hearing, fine motor skills, and speaking. Frequently sitting, standing, walking and carrying. Occasionally bending, lifting, crouching and climbing.

- Work is performed mostly indoors with occasional outdoor work with exposure to heat, humidity, and cold.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.
