ChristianaCare is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Services Supervisor to direct and coordinate the daily activities of Environmental Services personnel while ensuring a clean, safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment for patients, visitors, and caregivers.

This role serves as a key leader within the EVS department, providing operational oversight, staff supervision, onboarding coordination, orientation delivery, and ongoing training support. The Supervisor works closely with department leadership to ensure compliance with organizational, state, federal, and accrediting standards while fostering a culture of service excellence, accountability, and teamwork.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Operations

- Supervise Environmental Services staff and monitor work in progress to ensure adherence to departmental procedures, schedules, and quality standards.
- Provide guidance and support to team members in resolving challenges and completing complex assignments.
- Communicate approved departmental policies and procedures and ensure staff compliance.
- Relate daily operational updates and issues to department leadership and other stakeholders.
- Maintain responsibility for assigned areas, ensuring cleanliness standards are consistently met and identifying opportunities for process improvement.
- Handle requests promptly and with a strong customer service focus.
- Participate in hospital committees, activities, and special events as assigned.

Training & Onboarding

- Coordinate orientation and all onboarding activities for new EVS caregivers.
- Maintain training documentation and employee records.
- Assist with annual retraining initiatives and all required ChristianaCare educational programs.
- Train staff on departmental procedures, cleaning techniques, sanitation standards, equipment operation, cost-effective supply usage, and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements.
- Ensure assigned caregivers understand schedules, responsibilities, and performance expectations.

Employee Relations & Performance Management

- Evaluate employee performance and provide coaching and developmental feedback.
- Recommend promotions when appropriate and administer corrective action and disciplinary processes as needed.
- Promote a positive, service-oriented culture through leadership, recognition, and engagement.
- Foster teamwork and maintain productive relationships across departments.

Compliance & Safety

- Support departmental compliance with state, federal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Ensure caregivers follow established safety policies and procedures.
- Report unsafe conditions, hazards, incidents, and safety violations promptly.
- Support infection prevention practices and environmental safety initiatives.

Administrative Responsibilities

- Maintain daily operational records, including cleaning activities, special projects, maintenance requests, key control, pagers, and attendance documentation.
- Prepare reports, maintain records, and oversee work assignments and scheduling activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education

- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Associate degree or higher preferred.
- Additional coursework in English, Spanish, humanities, business, or technical disciplines is desirable.

Experience

- Two to five years of Environmental Services experience required.
- Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.

- Knowledge of hospital and Environmental Services policies, procedures, and standards.
- Strong leadership, coaching, and supervisory skills.
- Ability to effectively train, motivate, and develop staff.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to delegate responsibilities and evaluate employee performance.
- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
- Proven ability to establish positive working relationships across departments.
- Ability to identify process improvements that enhance quality and operational effectiveness.

Physical Requirements

- Prolonged standing and walking.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and move objects weighing up to 40 pounds and occasionally more.

Working Conditions

- Work is performed in a healthcare environment.
- Possible exposure to infectious diseases while following established safety precautions and infection prevention protocols.

Hourly Pay Range: $22.74 - $34.11

This pay rate/range represents ChristianaCare’s good faith and reasonable estimate of compensation at the time of posting. The actual salary within this range offered to a successful candidate will depend on individual factors including without limitation skills, relevant experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements.
