Pay Range : $31.25 - $34.62 /hr ($65,000 - $72,000 annualized) plus full benefit package

Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday; 6:30 AM - 2:30 PM

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Framing Carpenter Lead is a highly skilled framer whose job is production and instruction at the same time. The role frames Habitat homes to PHFH standards, takes the complex assemblies and problem conditions that a framing carpenter would escalate, and checks the framing package before the next trade is scheduled. The Lead owns the department's structured training path, including the cross-training required so that no field skill rests on a single person, and sets the workmanship standard for the framing crew. The role reports to the On-Site Project Foreman. Must be able to read and interpret blueprints.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

FRAMING PRODUCTION

· Commit to Pensacola Habitat for Humanity's mission of building homes, community, and hope.

· Frame Habitat homes to PHFH standards in accordance with house plans, specifications, and quality requirements.

· Set the workmanship standard on site; the quality of this role's own work is the reference other crew members are trained to.

· Identify and recommend advantageous building practices and material cost savings.

· Update required project information in the organization's construction project management software at the end of each workday.

TRAINING AND SKILL DEVELOPMENT

· Own a written training plan for each apprentice, with defined skills, milestones, and a review schedule.

· Deliver hands-on instruction in framing, layout, blueprint reading, measuring and cutting, tool use, and build sequence.

· Deliver the cross-training plan agreed with the Construction Manager, including heavy equipment operation, so that no field function rests on a single person.

· Assess and document crew skill levels, and advise the On-Site Project Foreman on readiness for advancement.

· Protect scheduled training time; escalate to the On-Site Project Foreman when production demands displace it.

VOLUNTEER AND HOMEBUYER INSTRUCTION

· Train and direct volunteers and homebuyers working sweat equity hours, matching tasks to skill level and supervising the work.

· Deliver task-level safety instruction before volunteers begin work, and support the daily site safety meeting.

· Create a welcoming, patient, and mission-driven experience for volunteers of every skill level.

SAFETY AND SITE STANDARDS

· Ensure a safe construction environment in accordance with HFHI Competent Person Safety Training.

· At the end of each workday, ensure the site is clean and swept, all tools are put away, and all tools are in safe and good working condition.

· Send damaged tools for repair daily, if applicable.

· Complete other duties as assigned.

Requirements

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

· Advanced knowledge of standard framing practices; able to frame a home independently and correct others' work.

· Highly skilled in the use of standard construction tools.

· Knowledge of reading and interpreting building plans and specifications.

· Demonstrated ability to teach a trade skill to an inexperienced adult learner.

· Patience, clear verbal instruction, and the ability to motivate, communicate, and team build.

· Ability to prioritize, coordinate, and manage a work site.

· Basic computer skills.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE:

· High school diploma or GED required.

· Minimum of five years of framing experience; eight years preferred.

· Prior experience training, mentoring, or leading other carpenters required.

· Experience working with volunteers strongly preferred.

· HFHI Competent Person Safety Training, or willingness to obtain it within the first 90 days.

· Valid driver's license required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:

This position is performed daily on PHFH construction sites and occasionally in a warehouse or office setting. This position requires frequent standing, climbing ladders, working at heights of 8 feet or greater, and lifting of 25 pounds or more. This position requires a valid state driver's license, safe driving record, reliable transportation, and insurability through our vehicle insurance carrier. This position also requires additional pre-employment screenings.
