Job Title: House Manager / Family Assistant

Location: Austin, TX 78745

Employment Type: Part-Time | 20–25 hours per week

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM. Core hours are guaranteed at 20 hours per week with an opportunity for additional hours based on family needs.

Compensation: $35–$40/hour; 2 weeks paid time off + holidays plus 5 sick days.

Requirements

- Maintain a smoke-free environment

- Must be authorized to work in the United States

- Reliable personal transportation required; mileage will be reimbursed

- Candidates are required to be up to date on recommended vaccinations in line with American Academy of Pediatrics and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines (including general recommended vaccinations, COVID-19, and measles), subject to applicable legal accommodations

- Ability to navigate stairs throughout the day as part of regular home duties

- Ability to perform an active, physical role including lifting, bending, and moving throughout the home

- CPR and First Aid certification preferred; willingness to obtain certification considered

About Our Family

We're a busy, warm household based in Austin — a working couple with a young toddler, two dogs (a big, lovable lab and a spirited little Chihuahua), and a home that moves at a good pace. One of us works primarily in an office, while the other is fully remote and home most days, which means the house is lived in and active. We've built out a great team to support our household — a full-time nanny, a personal chef, and a weekly deep cleaning crew — and now we're looking to add the final, essential piece: a house manager who owns the day-to-day rhythm of the home. We're a household that values calm, order, and intention. We love a well-organized, clutter-free environment (think: just-in-time restocking, not stockpiling), and we appreciate someone who brings that same philosophy to their work without being asked.

We truly value long-term relationships with the people who become part of our household. Our previous house manager was with us for many years, and we’d love to find someone who is looking for that same kind of lasting fit—someone who wants to grow with our family, feel valued and appreciated, and take genuine pride in helping our home run smoothly.

- Confident managing calendars, delivery orders, and vendor coordination (and keeping it all moving before noon)

- Strong judgment with spending and vendor selection—discerning, steady, and not easily pressured

- Warm, low-drama presence who works seamlessly alongside other household staff with professionalism and tact

- Deep respect for child safety with consistent follow-through and excellent situational awareness

- Takes pride in polished, intentional tidying and well-organized spaces—finds satisfaction in a home that runs like clockwork (and loves dogs is a plus)

- Household management experience is a plus, but life experience + strong organizational instincts + the right personality are equally valued

Key Responsibilities

Household Organization & Maintenance

- Execute daily household resets to maintain a consistent, calm "ideal state" throughout the home

- Perform light tidying: dishes, surfaces, vacuuming high-traffic areas, and light mopping as needed

- Prep the home before weekly deep cleaning visits

- Manage seasonal swaps for clothing, décor, and bedding

- Coordinate donation drop-offs and manage decluttering projects as needed

- Assist with packing and unpacking for travel

- Replace batteries, lightbulbs, and other routine household maintenance items

- Refresh entryway and garage areas to keep them organized and functional

- Assist with guest, holiday, and event prep — including light additional cleaning when needed

Inventory & Errands

- Manage pantry, fridge, and household supply restocking using a minimalist, just-in-time approach — always stocked, never cluttered

- Place and manage orders through delivery apps and household subscriptions ( Costco, Target, etc.)

- Handle returns, dry cleaning drop-off and pickup, gift shopping and wrapping, and holiday card and birthday calendar management

- Manage incoming mail and packages; break down and recycle boxes

Meal Support

- Order pantry staples and household groceries via delivery app (the chef handles all meal ingredients separately)

- Prep light snacks such as fruits and vegetables when needed (a bonus!)

- Maintain a strictly nut-free kitchen environment; the household has a child with a nut allergy

- Keep the kitchen clean and tidy after any use

Laundry & Linens

- Wash, fold, and organize all non-baby laundry, following specific care instructions provided by the family

- Maintain closet organization by category, then sorted in color order

- Rotate hand towels daily and bed linens approximately once per week

- Keep laundry areas tidy and well-stocked

- Bonus: Comfortable ironing/steaming on an ad-hoc basis

Pet Care

- Walk, feed, and care for two dogs daily

- Schedule vet appointments, grooming, and doggy daycare

- Help keep the Chihuahua comfy and cared for day to day—eye drops as part of the routine, plus baths when needed

- Maintain pet supplies and keep pet areas tidy

Vehicle Upkeep

- Take the family vehicle for regular car washes, including familiarity with electric vehicle settings and car wash mode

- Keep the vehicle clean and organized

Family Support

- Serve as a last-resort backup for light childcare in true emergencies; the nanny is the primary and preferred caregiver

- Collaborate quietly and professionally with other household staff, including coordinating kid-related inventory needs with the nanny as appropriate

Administrative & Scheduling

- Own and maintain the household calendar: schedule vendor visits, vet appointments, daycare, date nights, reservations, and other recurring household events

- Schedule, write the agenda for, and lead a weekly household meeting with the family and nanny

- Coordinate and vet vendors for simple home repairs and maintenance (plumbers, electricians, etc.)

- Manage household spending on a family-provided card.

- Track receipts and maintain basic budget awareness for household purchases

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

- Occasional organizational projects (closets, storage, seasonal gear) on an as-needed basis

- Light outdoor maintenance: leaf blowing and raking as conditions require, managing and rotating outdoor cushions and patio items
