Job Title: New Model Engineer Job Description
The New Model Engineer delivers early planning and engineering solutions across product, process, and tooling to support new vehicle programs, with a focus on Body in White construction and manufacturing feasibility. This role contributes to cost-competitive and agile manufacturing in North America by conducting feasibility studies, defining equipment and tooling requirements, and guiding production engineering through successful launch of new models.
Responsibilities
- Conduct feasibility studies for new Body in White construction and new equipment or process methods to improve manufacturing capability and efficiency in North America.
- Report technical findings, feasibility outcomes, and engineering recommendations to New Model Project Leadership and Business Unit Management.
- Support manufacturing equipment and tooling production requirement checks for new models to ensure all production needs are clearly defined and met.
- Identify equipment and tooling change points required for new model introduction and communicate these needs effectively to relevant stakeholders.
- Ensure product design incorporates manufacturing requirements by verifying that part drawings accurately capture production and tooling constraints.
- Conceive and support the development of new model engineering design specifications for assigned categories and functions, ensuring alignment with manufacturing goals.
- Provide technical guidance and oversight to the Production Engineering team to enable successful equipment and tool design and smooth production start-up.
- Participate in manufacturing problem analysis during new model development, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to resolve issues.
- Serve as the go-to technical resource for the assigned category, offering expertise in new model development, manufacturing processes, and Body in White construction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure early planning, engineering solutions, and manufacturing requirements are integrated throughout the new model lifecycle.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, such as Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or equivalent related experience.
- 02 years of experience in production engineering, equipment, or tooling related to new model development.
- Experience conducting feasibility studies for new manufacturing processes, equipment, or Body in White construction.
- Knowledge of new model development processes and manufacturing practices within an automotive or similar production environment.
- Knowledge of Body in White construction and its implications for manufacturing feasibility and tooling design.
- Ability to perform problem-solving analysis and break down complex issues to identify root causes.
- Capability to provide technical guidance and oversight to production engineering teams during equipment and tool design and production start-up.
- Strong understanding of how manufacturing requirements should be captured within part drawings and product design.

- Familiarity with structured new model development methodologies and manufacturing engineering practices.
- Strong communication skills to effectively report technical content and recommendations to project leadership and management.
- Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product design and production engineering, to align manufacturing requirements with design specifications.
- Attention to detail when reviewing equipment, tooling, and part drawings to ensure production requirements are met.
Work Environment
This position operates primarily in an office environment, working closely with engineering and production teams. The role involves technical analysis, documentation, and collaboration, with occasional interaction with manufacturing and tooling activities as needed to support new model development.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Marysville, OH.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $36.00 - $40.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
