Hardware Test Technician I

Pay Rate: $40/hr on W2

Position Overview

We are seeking a Hardware Test Technician I to support a hardware validation and quality control operation. This role will focus on testing, validating, processing, and tracking hardware components used in advanced data collection and technology systems.

The position will be based in a warehouse and laboratory environment , using documented standard operating procedures (SOPs), test benches, and validation workflows. The ideal candidate will be comfortable performing repetitive hands-on testing, following detailed procedures, documenting results, and troubleshooting basic hardware and software issues.

Top Responsibilities

- Execute hardware and software validation by connecting sensors, compute devices, and related hardware to test benches.
- Perform documented testing, firmware updates, and pass/fail verification.
- Process validated hardware for shipment and route defective components through established RMA or repair workflows.
- Label, track, and maintain accurate hardware inventory and disposition records.
- Record test results and operational activities accurately in designated tracking systems.
- Identify issues that cannot be resolved through documented procedures and escalate them appropriately.

Hardware Validation & Testing

- Connect sensors, compute devices, and related hardware to validation benches.
- Execute documented test procedures and validation workflows.
- Verify hardware functionality against defined pass/fail criteria.
- Record and track test results in designated systems.
- Apply appropriate status labels and asset-tracking information.

Software & Firmware Validation

- Perform firmware updates and software installation activities.
- Execute predefined scripts and automation workflows.
- Verify successful completion of software, firmware, and driver updates.
- Validate expected system behavior following updates.
- Use command-line utilities and documented technical procedures as required.

Hardware Processing & Disposition

- Process validated hardware for shipment to downstream integration teams.
- Identify and segregate failed or defective components.
- Route failed hardware through established repair or RMA workflows.
- Maintain accurate inventory and disposition records.
- Support shipping, receiving, labeling, and hardware tracking activities as needed.

Operational Support

- Follow documented SOPs, work instructions, and established workflows.
- Escalate issues that cannot be resolved through documented troubleshooting procedures.
- Maintain organized workspaces, test benches, and equipment.
- Support consistent hardware throughput while maintaining quality and accuracy standards.
- Work effectively in a hands-on warehouse and laboratory environment.

Required Qualifications

- Experience working in a technical lab, manufacturing, warehouse, testing, or hardware support environment .
- Familiarity with Windows and Linux operating systems .
- Basic understanding of networking concepts and connectivity troubleshooting .
- Ability to read, understand, and execute documented procedures and SOPs.
- Ability to execute command-line utilities and existing scripts.
- Strong attention to detail and documentation discipline.
- Ability to work with hardware, test equipment, and technical systems in a hands-on environment.

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience performing hardware testing or validation.
- Familiarity with firmware updates, software installation, and driver management.
- Basic scripting knowledge in Bash, Python, PowerShell, or similar languages .
- Experience with inventory control, shipping/receiving, or RMA processes.
- Ability to independently troubleshoot straightforward hardware and software issues.
- Familiarity with sensors, specialized hardware, or autonomous/advanced vehicle components.

- Execute hardware validation procedures according to documented SOPs.
- Accurately document test outcomes and hardware disposition.
- Process hardware through pass, fail, shipping, repair, and RMA workflows.
- Maintain established quality, accuracy, and throughput standards.
- Escalate exceptions and unresolved technical issues through appropriate channels.

Work Environment

- Onsite warehouse and laboratory environment in the San Francisco Bay Area.
- Primarily hands-on bench testing, hardware handling, troubleshooting, and operational processing.
- Full-time onsite support during standard business hours.
- Ability to quickly learn and follow established procedures and technical workflows.
