Title : Hot Mill Process Engineer

Requirements : Must have a Bachelor’s or foreign equivalent degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or directly related Engineering field and three (3) years of steel rolling process experience applying metallurgical knowledge to flat steel products manufacturing. Experience must include: Designing and implementing equipment modifications in the Hot Mill and teamwork with downstream processes (internal customer) including the Pickling line, Tandem Mill, Galvanizing Line, Batch Annealing, and/or Temper mill to improve operations and/or develop new products. Developing process improvement plans, including preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and process troubleshooting utilizing IBA Analyzer PDA for process events. Assessing product quality and ensuring adherence to industry manufacturing and production standards improving quality issues detected in downstream process lines. Developing procedures to support expansion into new markets and applications, including electrical steel, construction, and automotive exposed steel.

Job Duties : Design and implement equipment modifications in the Hot Mill and teamwork with downstream processes (internal customer) including the Pickling line, Tandem Mill, Galvanizing Line, Batch Annealing, and/or Temper mill to improve operations and/or develop new products. Work with teammates to create solutions in the areas of safety, profitability, and teammate development. Develop the specific training and communications required to expand the knowledge of the team, partners, and customers. Develop process improvement plans, including preventive, predictive and corrective maintenance and process troubleshooting utilizing IBA Analyzer PDA for process events. Lead and actively participate in safety initiatives. Provide process development and technical support operations for the Hot Rolling Mill as assigned, to ensure optimization of manufacturing processes for steel sheets, customer-specific requirements for new high-end quality steel sheet. Develop and conduct technical training for the rolling mill team as required for safe and effective mill operation to provide quality steel, on time. Assess product quality and ensure adherence to industry manufacturing and production standards improving quality issues detected in downstream process lines. Develop the best practices to maximize production prime rate, reduce reworks, increase yield, productivity, and on-time delivery. Select the process parameters to meet the product requirements. Perform task risk assessments to identify safety hazards and communicate findings with the team to implement adequate measures based on the Safety Hierarchy of the Control Pyramid to avoid safety events. Require demonstrated proficiency in data acquisition software and SQL coding to monitor and analyze rolling process, and equipment conditions. Perform statistical analysis to draw conclusions that impact product quality and process KPI. Monitor mill personnel and crew performance; address communication and training needs to improve daily operations KPI. Investigate, design, and implement SOPs for the Hot rolling operations to optimize production performance and minimize costs. Provide metallurgical and process support to the rolling mill to ensure product design and solutions satisfy customer process requirements. Experience must include: evaluating steel chemistry and mechanical processing parameters to ensure physical properties are met; defining critical processing parameters control limits, engineering automatic detection of deviations; data extraction and cost, failure and rolling statistical data analyses on synchronized data to drive daily decision making in hot rolling production; developing materials suppliers (furnace rolls, work rolls, backup rolls, run out table rolls, pinch rolls, wrapper rolls and guides liners); and customer technical support. Design and implement equipment modifications in the Hot Mill and teamwork with downstream processes (internal customer) like the Pickling line, Tandem Mill, Galvanizing Line, Batch Annealing, and/or Temper mill to improve operations and/or develop new products. Develop procedures to support expansion into new markets and applications, including electrical steel, construction, and automotive exposed steel. Expand the Mill Product Capabilities and answer order inquiries for new market opportunities. Interact with customers and claims resolutions.
