We are seeking a motivated Structural Design Engineer with at least 4 years of professional experience to join a growing, highly collaborative engineering team. In this role, you will contribute to the structural design and analysis of a wide variety of projects, working closely with multidisciplinary teams and supporting projects from concept through construction administration. Responsibilities
- Perform structural design and analysis for a broad range of projects, including commercial buildings, educational facilities, mixed-use developments, transportation structures, industrial facilities, seismic retrofits, and specialty structures.
- Develop structural calculations and design solutions for steel, concrete, timber/wood, and masonry structures, ensuring compliance with applicable codes and standards.
- Prepare detailed structural drawings, models, and documentation using Revit and AutoCAD to support design development and construction.
- Collaborate with civil engineers, architects, and other multidisciplinary team members to integrate structural solutions into overall project designs.
- Support projects from early concept and schematic design through construction documents and construction administration, responding to RFIs and reviewing submittals as needed.
- Apply structural engineering principles, including stress analysis and structural analysis, to evaluate existing structures and design new systems.
- Utilize relevant design standards such as IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and other applicable codes in daily engineering work.
- Participate in weekly learning lunches and knowledge-sharing sessions to solve engineering problems and mentor junior staff.
- Communicate clearly with internal teams and external stakeholders through strong written reports, calculations, and verbal presentations.
- Contribute to a fast-paced project environment, managing multiple assignments among 1,5002,000 projects per year ranging from retaining walls to new multifamily developments.
- Support quality control processes by reviewing designs and documents for accuracy, constructability, and adherence to firm standards.
- Engage in continuous professional development, including progressing toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure and staying current with industry best practices.
Essential Skills
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering with a structural emphasis.
- Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering experience.
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification.
- Actively working toward Professional Engineer (PE) licensure or recently licensed PE.
- Demonstrated experience designing structures in steel, concrete, timber/wood, and masonry.
- Proficiency in structural engineering design and structural analysis.
- Ability to perform detailed structural calculations and stress analysis.
- Hands-on experience with Revit and AutoCAD for structural design and documentation.
- Strong understanding and practical application of IBC, ASCE 7, AISC, ACI, NDS, and other relevant design standards.
- Solid foundation in structural steel and wood structure design.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment and contribute to multidisciplinary projects.

Work Environment
You will join a well-established structural engineering team that has operated in the Portland area for over 40 years and is licensed in 45 states. The firm currently has 26 engineers, including several partners, and works on 1,5002,000 projects annually, ranging from retaining walls to new multifamily developments. The office is located in a beautiful space near Washington Square Mall and offers a hybrid work model, with engineers who have 2+ years of experience eligible for one regular work-from-home day per week and PE-level engineers eligible for two, with employees selecting their permanent remote days. The culture emphasizes collaboration, a love of learning, and mutual respect. The team holds weekly learning lunches to solve engineering problems and share knowledge, team outings every few months, and four employee events per year, including a holiday gathering. This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Tigard, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $85.00 - $100000.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
