Sourcing Engineer Job Description The Senior Sourcing Engineer plays a critical role in sourcing components, assemblies, materials, and manufacturing processes to support both new product development and existing products in a regulated manufacturing environment. This position requires deep knowledge of medical device manufacturing, supplier capabilities, engineering drawings and specifications, process development, quality systems, and supplier qualification. The Senior Sourcing Engineer takes full ownership of sourcing projects from initial supplier identification through technical evaluation, quotation, development, and qualification, ensuring that products meet performance, quality, and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities

- Lead sourcing activities for components, assemblies, materials, and manufacturing processes that support new product development and sustain existing products.
- Identify, evaluate, and select external manufacturing suppliers and contract manufacturers based on technical capability, quality, cost, and delivery performance.
- Interpret and work with engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and bills of material to ensure suppliers can meet design and manufacturing requirements.
- Drive supplier qualification and development activities, including technical evaluations, process capability assessments, and quality system reviews.
- Manage the full lifecycle of sourcing projects from initial supplier identification through technical evaluation, quotation, development, and qualification.
- Collaborate closely with engineering, manufacturing, quality, and other cross-functional teams to align sourcing strategies with product and process requirements.
- Support process development efforts with suppliers to establish robust, repeatable, and compliant manufacturing processes for medical devices.
- Apply strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills to resolve supplier-related issues and improve supplier performance.
- Maintain effective communication with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, providing clear updates on project status, risks, and mitigation plans.
- Use project management and organizational skills to plan, prioritize, and execute multiple sourcing initiatives in parallel within a regulated environment.

Essential Skills

- 7+ years of experience in engineering, sourcing, supplier development, manufacturing engineering, or closely related fields.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering principles applicable to medical device production.
- Experience working with external manufacturing suppliers and contract manufacturers.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, tolerances, and bills of material with a high degree of accuracy.
- Experience with supplier qualification and supplier development in a regulated manufacturing environment.
- Strong problem-solving and root-cause analysis skills for addressing complex technical and supplier-related issues.
- Experience working in a regulated manufacturing environment, preferably in medical devices.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering.
- Familiarity with quality systems and regulatory expectations for medical device manufacturing.
- Experience supporting process development activities with suppliers to establish robust manufacturing processes.
- Ability to build and maintain strong supplier relationships that support long-term business and product objectives.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Burnsville, MN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $50.00 - $75.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
