Hardware Engineer

Job Description

We are seeking a Hardware Engineer to support an established portfolio of electronic products used in demanding industrial applications. The position is primarily focused on sustaining engineering, product maintenance, manufacturing support, and continuous improvement rather than greenfield product development. The successful candidate will work closely with engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and external manufacturing partners to maintain product reliability, address component and production issues, and support updates to existing electronic designs.

Responsibilities

- Manage engineering change requests involving component substitutions, minor design updates, engineering reviews, and PCB modifications.
- Support the maintenance and continuous improvement of existing electronic products throughout their lifecycle.
- Collaborate with supply chain teams to evaluate component availability, alternates, and technical requirements.
- Work closely with external electronics manufacturing partners to resolve technical and production-related issues.
- Troubleshoot electronic hardware and PCB assemblies using schematics, oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other test equipment.
- Investigate production and field issues to determine root causes and recommend appropriate corrective actions.
- Evaluate prototypes, first articles, and updated assemblies to confirm design intent and manufacturability.
- Make updates to schematics, PCB layouts, component selections, and associated engineering documentation.
- Participate in design reviews and provide hardware engineering input to broader engineering initiatives.
- Support the modernization and improvement of legacy electronic designs and engineering processes.
- Clearly document engineering changes, findings, test results, and technical recommendations.
- Manage multiple technical priorities within a fast-paced product development and manufacturing environment.

Essential Skills

- 3+ years of hardware or electronics engineering experience involving electronic product design, sustaining engineering, or manufacturing support.
- Diploma or degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
- Proficiency with Altium for schematic capture and PCB layout.
- Experience designing or supporting low-power or battery-powered electronic products.
- Strong hands-on PCB troubleshooting and diagnostic experience using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other electronic test equipment.
- Experience identifying component-level issues and evaluating replacement or alternate components.
- Experience with EMC/EMI testing, troubleshooting, or compliance activities.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, PCB documentation, datasheets, and other technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills applied to electronic hardware and production issues.
- Effective communication skills for working across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, and external manufacturing partners.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Experience with formal EMC/EMI testing processes and standards.
- Experience supporting electronic products used in industrial or other demanding operating environments.
- Experience working with external electronics manufacturing services providers or contract manufacturers.
- Experience with embedded electronic devices incorporating wireless communication technologies.
- EIT, P.Eng., or similar professional designation is considered an asset.
- Experience supporting products throughout their manufacturing lifecycle, including design changes, component obsolescence, production issues, and continuous improvement.
- Familiarity with automation or emerging tools that can improve legacy engineering workflows is considered an asset.
- Comfortable supporting multiple product lines and competing engineering priorities.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, BC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.46 - $48.08/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
Workplace Type
This is a fully onsite position in Vancouver,BC.
