Automation Technician

The Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, validating, and supporting laboratory automation systems that enable efficient and compliant laboratory operations. This role serves as the primary first-line automation support resource and works closely with laboratory operations, quality, engineering, and external vendors. Responsibilities

- Perform routine inspections, preventive maintenance, calibration, and operational checks on automation systems.
- Troubleshoot automation hardware, software, instrumentation, and process issues to minimize downtime.
- Support installation, setup, qualification, and validation of new automation platforms and equipment upgrades.
- Assist with investigations, root cause analyses, deviation reviews, and corrective actions.
- Maintain automated liquid handling systems, robotic platforms, thermal control devices, and laboratory instrumentation.
- Configure automation software, execute methods, perform backups, and support approved programming modifications.
- Maintain maintenance, calibration, validation, and change control documentation.
- Coordinate with Quality, Engineering, Operations, and vendors to support equipment reliability and performance.
- Monitor automation system performance and identify continuous improvement opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with safety, quality, regulatory, and data integrity requirements.
- Stay current with evolving laboratory automation technologies.
- Support standardization and deployment of automation solutions across multiple laboratory sites.

Essential Skills

- Minimum 3 years supporting an automation environment.
- Experience maintaining and troubleshooting automated equipment.
- Automation, PLC programming, filler machine, Ladder Logic Programming.
- Electro-Mechanical Troubleshooting (Motors, Sensors, Gearboxes, Pneumatics).
- PLC & Controls Diagnostics (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, HMI).
- Preventive Maintenance (PMs), Equipment Reliability & Root Cause Analysis.
- Robotics, Electrical, conveyor systems.

- Validation and qualification experience.

- Exposure to regulated laboratory environments.
- Familiarity with laboratory automation workflows.
- Experience supporting validated systems and computerized laboratory equipment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mebane, NC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $45.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
