Job Description

Project Management and Delivery leadership opportunity as Director – Project Manager, Gas Turbine Facility Development with AECOM’s Australian Generation & Storage energy team. You will be joining an established team of Industry and Technical leaders in the rapidly evolving market for gas generation related projects, with a focus on gas turbine facility development to support diversification of generation across the Australian energy supply chain.

You will have leadership responsibilities for project delivery excellence by establishing the project management, delivery and governance approach to enable the delivery of project scope, timeline and commercial requirements.  You will be part of the passionate team delivering complex, innovative, and rapidly evolving technical requirements for Gas Generation related projects.  Your knowledge, experience and understanding of Australian construction regulation and requirements across States will be important, especially in relation to how these apply to the design stages and Owners Engineer role during construction.

You will be working closely and in partnership with AECOM’s technical design and engineering teams ensuring technical excellence, along with project timeline, commercial and delivery milestones. In addition, you will be leading across project stages from inception to concept and detailed design, procurement, construction and commissioning, bringing your experience of end-to-end project delivery in the energy generation sector.

You will have scope to make a real difference with the changing generation requirements across the portfolio of energy generation assets with plenty of variety working across very different project types including greenfield and brownfield related gas projects.  You will be working with clients located throughout Australia – all with unique and diverse generation approaches of varying scope and scale.  Your ability to build positive working relationships as a trusted advisor with a broad range of stakeholders with clients and their technical teams, with contractors and site teams, as well as with OEMs will be important.

You will have a broad scope to make a lasting difference across Australia ‘s energy transition during a rapidly evolving energy landscape, as our clients look to explore and solve gas generation supply and demand challenges.  The fast-paced and innovative nature of projects will suit a project manager or delivery leader looking to grow client relationships and make a difference across the Australian generation sector.

How you will make a difference

- Lead project management, governance and risk management requirements across Gas Generation Facility development projects throughout Australia.
- Lead project delivery including in an Owners Engineer, Project or Design Management capacity, collaborating and liaising with AECOM’s project management teams, ensuring scope, timeframe and client budget requirements are met.
- Work in partnership with AECOM’s Generation & Storage Industry directors, technical and design leaders to connect with clients and the market to originate project proposals.
- Build client relationships as a trusted advisor, across senior leaders and client technical teams across project stages and milestones.
- Apply your commercial judgement to budget and project milestone decisions, considering what is best for project and a client’s scope.
- Support business development activities, including bid and proposal response processes, working across AECOM’s team of subject matter leaders across engineering disciplines.

This role has scope to be based in the main AECOM offices throughout Australia, ideally Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane.  Some domestic travel is required depending on client, site, and project requirements.

Qualifications

To be successful in this Director – Project Manager, Gas Turbine Facility Development role, you will be a Project Management or Delivery leader known across the Gas Turbine Facility development and related generation markets in Australia.  You will have a strong Project Management and delivery track record of Gas Turbine or heavy industrial projects in the Australian market across all project stages, being able to provide project advice as an Owners Engineer innately knowing what is critical for projects during delivery stages.  Understanding and experience with Australian construction regulations and requirements as they related to the energy generation sector will be important.

You will be known for your leadership abilities, bringing together diverse internal, client and external teams, gaining agreement on the project delivery approach for complex energy projects.  You will also be known for your ability to connect with senior leaders, to understand their technical, commercial and project needs, being able to provide solutions and proposals that meet these needs and support other AECOM industry and market leaders.

What you will bring

- Deep knowledge of Gas Turbine Facility development and related generation engineering requirements with 10+ years (ideally more) with a focus on project delivery of complex greenfield and brownfield projects, across all project stages.
- Proven project management and delivery leadership, able to integrate diverse technical disciplines to drive successful project delivery toward a shared goal for generation projects in this sector.
- Able to lead project governance and risk assessment discussions, including identifying, assessing, and mitigating project risks as well as strong commercial judgement and pragmatism, understanding and managing design and build cost considerations for clients.
- A good knowledge of the key engineering, design, operation and maintenance principles for Gas Turbine facilities, as well as with OEM providers especially in relation to international supply chain and equipment delivery times.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and client engagement skills, with the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams with internal and client technical teams, influence outcomes, and contribute to project delivery as a trusted advisor.
- Demonstrated experience preparing or reviewing procurement documentation, evaluating and normalising bids, undertaking technical due diligence, assessing departures and supporting commercial negotiations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian standards, regulatory requirements, and industry codes across a range of design delivery models as they relate to the energy generation sector.
- Track record assuring quality and compliance including roles as Owners Engineer, confirming what is built aligns with detailed design and contractual performance obligations, in the Australian market.
- Current relationships and a network working with a broad range of generation and related clients, including developers, energy generators, private and public sector clients across Australia with experience working in either / or a combination of consulting, developer, OEM, integrator or EPC industries.
- Hold a relevant Project Management qualification or designation, preferably at a postgraduate or similar level.
