Shift Engineer, 3rd Class Operating Engineer

Type: Contract, Continental 12-hour shifts

Are you a licensed 3rd Class Operating Engineer who takes pride in keeping critical plant operations running safely and reliably? Enwave is looking for a hardworking, hands-on professional to join our Operations team and help ensure St. Joseph’s Hospital has a dependable source of energy.

As a Shift Engineer, you’ll be responsible for the safe, reliable, economical, and environmentally responsible operation of the boiler house during your shift. You’ll operate and maintain plant equipment, oversee work taking place in the facility, and help ensure continuous energy delivery to the hospital.

What you’ll do

You’ll take responsibility for plant operations during your shift, including supervising staff and contractors working in the plant. You’ll operate and maintain boilers, water treatment systems, computer control systems (DCS), distribution systems, and other plant equipment while monitoring steam supply and pressure to meet site requirements.

You’ll complete regular equipment checks, use the plant control system to monitor and operate equipment, support routine cleaning and maintenance activities, and help ensure efficient and reliable energy delivery to the hospital.

Safety will be central to everything you do. You’ll follow Enwave’s safety practices, policies, and procedures, ensure work is carried out safely, and approve safe work permits for maintenance personnel and outside contractors.

What we’re looking for

- Valid Ontario Certificate of Qualification for Operating Engineer 3rd Class .

- Strong knowledge of energy production, heat transfer, and distribution concepts.

- Ability to meet the physical demands of the position.

- Previous maintenance experience is an asset.

- Strong computer literacy and comfort working with technology and computerized plant systems.

- Availability to work a continental 12-hour shift schedule .

- Ability to enter confined spaces, work at heights, and demonstrate competence in Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.

- Valid Ontario driver’s license in good standing.

- Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe operating practices.

- Flexibility and adaptability to work effectively in a dynamic operating environment.

Compensation

The hourly rate for this role is $42.51 CAD per hour .
