About this role

Description

Are you passionate about display subsystems and kernel-level graphics frameworks that power millions of consumer devices? Join our team to work at the core of the Linux display stack, driving DRM/KMS framework development, V4L2 display driver integration, and kernel module development to deliver visually rich and high-fidelity experiences on cutting-edge devices.

As a SysDE I on the Display Module team, you will own the development and integration of display kernel drivers built on the DRM/KMS framework, enabling features such as plane management, CRTC configuration, and atomic modesetting. You will work with V4L2 drivers for display pipeline processing, develop and extend kernel modules for display processing units, and drive HDR/SDR format conversion across the display pipeline, including support for 8-bit, 10-bit, and 12-bit color depth configurations to ensure accurate tone mapping and color fidelity on diverse panel types.

You will also be responsible for bootsplash enablement, ensuring seamless visual output from early kernel initialization through kernel hand-off to the userspace display stack, delivering a flicker-free and visually consistent boot experience across product platforms.

This summary shifts the focus from GPU/compositor work to the Display module domain, specifically emphasizing:

DRM/KMS framework — plane management, CRTC, atomic modesetting
V4L2 driver — display pipeline processing
Kernel module development — DPU driver work
HDR/SDR conversion — tone mapping across the display pipeline
8/10/12-bit depth — color fidelity and panel support
Bootsplash — early kernel visual output through kernel hand-off

Key job responsibilities
• Own the development, integration, and bring-up of display kernel drivers built on the DRM/KMS framework across multiple product platforms, including CRTC configuration, plane management, connector setup, and atomic modesetting to ensure stable and performant display output
• Develop and maintain V4L2-based display and video pipeline drivers, enabling hardware-accelerated video processing, format conversion, and display output routing through the kernel media subsystem
• Design, implement, and extend Linux kernel modules for Display Processing Units (DPU), including driver architecture, power management hooks, interrupt handling, and device tree integration
• Drive HDR/SDR format conversion and tone mapping across the display pipeline, ensuring accurate rendering of HDR10, HLG, and SDR content with proper metadata handling and color space transitions
• Enable and validate support for 8-bit, 10-bit, and 12-bit color depth configurations across the display pipeline, ensuring correct pixel format negotiation, dithering strategies, and panel compatibility
• Own bootsplash enablement and optimization, ensuring seamless visual output from early kernel initialization (bootloader framebuffer handoff) through kernel driver probe to userspace display stack handoff, delivering a flicker-free boot experience
• Debug and root-cause complex display subsystem issues spanning DRM/KMS, V4L2, DPU firmware, panel timing, and color pipeline using kernel traces, DRM debug logs, and hardware diagnostic tools
• Collaborate with SoC/silicon vendors on display IP bring-up, driver patch integration, and resolving vendor-specific display controller and panel driver defects
• Develop and maintain automated test suites and CI validation frameworks for display subsystem regression, compliance testing, and color accuracy verification
• Author and maintain technical documentation including display driver design specs, integration guides, boot sequence diagrams, and troubleshooting runbooks for the display subsystem
