Job Title: Structural Drafter Job Description
The Structural Drafter prepares precise structural drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD 2D, supporting engineers and project teams across multiple projects. This role focuses on developing foundation and framing plans, structural details, and elevations while ensuring all drawings comply with standards and applicable building codes. The position requires strong coordination, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate structural drawings and construction documents using AutoCAD 2D.
- Develop foundation plans, framing plans, structural details, sections, and elevations in accordance with project requirements.
- Revise drawings based on engineer and client comments, ensuring all feedback is correctly incorporated.
- Coordinate closely with engineers and other project team members to ensure the accuracy and completeness of drawings.
- Organize and maintain project drawing files and documentation in a structured and accessible manner.
- Assist with the preparation of permit and construction packages, including all required drawings and supporting documents.
- Verify that drawings comply with company standards, drafting conventions, and applicable building codes.
- Review project information and efficiently incorporate redlines and markups into drawings.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality work.
- Apply a strong understanding of construction drawings and drafting standards to produce consistent, clear documentation.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve design and documentation issues as they arise.
Essential Skills
- Associate degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Drafting, Engineering Technology, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of drafting experience in a structural, civil, architectural, or consulting engineering environment.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD 2D for structural drafting and design.
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, drafting standards, and structural documentation.
- Ability to interpret structural engineering sketches, calculations, and markups accurately.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills when producing and managing drawings.
- Effective communication skills for coordinating with engineers and project team members.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Demonstrated experience supporting structural, civil, or architectural projects from a drafting perspective.

Work Environment
The Structural Drafter works in a professional, fast-paced office environment focused on structural, civil, and architectural projects. The role involves extensive use of AutoCAD 2D and other standard office software to create and manage drawings and documentation. You will collaborate closely with engineers and project team members, often supporting multiple projects at the same time while meeting established deadlines. The position is primarily computer-based, with work performed in a typical office setting that values accuracy, organization, and clear communication.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract position based out of Smyrna, TN.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $35.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
