Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking an experienced Test Technician in Microelectronics to support advanced Radio Frequency (RF) hardware for high‑reliability defense applications based in Rolling Meadows, IL .

This role focuses on testing, tuning, and extensive troubleshooting of RF microelectronics circuits and assemblies (e.g., RF filters, amplifiers, and related RF components), often working for extended periods under a microscope on small‑form‑factor microelectronics.

This is a 4th shift position, working from 6am to 6:30pm Friday, Saturday, and Sunday (You will work 36 hours but will be paid for 40). Training will be conducted during 1st shift hours.

What You Will Get To Do:

- Set up, operate, and calibrate RF test equipment (e.g., network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, signal generators, oscilloscopes, power meters) to test RF microelectronics circuits, modules, and assemblies.
- Execute established test procedures to measure RF performance parameters (gain, noise figure, VSWR, linearity, power output, phase, etc.) across specified frequency bands.
- Perform extensive troubleshooting at the circuit and component level on RF microelectronics hardware, including RF filters, amplifiers, MMICs, and related components.
- Support tuning and optimization of RF circuits and microelectronics assemblies to meet performance specifications.
- Read and interpret detailed schematics, assembly drawings, work instructions, and data sheets to perform test and debug activities.
- Accurately record test data, results, and nonconformances in production travelers and electronic systems (e.g., SAP or other ERP/Manufacturing Execution Systems); create quality notifications or defect records as required.
- Use Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) to document test results, compile reports, and communicate status.
- Follow ESD (electrostatic discharge), FOD (foreign object damage), cleanliness, and handling procedures for sensitive microelectronics; support work in controlled or cleanroom environments as required.
- Work routinely with and under a microscope, using good manual dexterity to handle, inspect, and troubleshoot small microelectronic components and assemblies.
- Collaborate with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve test issues, support root‑cause analysis, and contribute to yield, quality, and process‑improvement initiatives.
- Adhere to all safety, security, and compliance requirements, including proper handling of CUI (controlled unclassified information), COMSEC (communications security), and export‑controlled or classified hardware and data as applicable.

The Ideal Candidate will Possess:

- Excellent manual dexterity for precise handling, inspection, and detailed troubleshooting.
- Ability to work independently on complex assignments and provide technical guidance or mentoring to junior technicians.

Basic Qualifications – Microelectronics Test Technician 4:

- High school diploma/GED and a minimum of 6 years of relevant electronics or RF test experience, OR an Associate's degree in electronics technology, engineering technology, or related field and 4 or more years of relevant electronics or RF test experience, OR a Bachelor’s degree in a related STEM discipline with 2 or more years of relevant electronic or RF test experience.
- Strong, hands‑on experience testing and extensively troubleshooting RF electronics, including tuning, testing, and/or troubleshooting RF filters, amplifiers, or RF microelectronics assemblies.
- Experience troubleshooting to the component level on RF hardware using test data, schematics, and diagnostic techniques.
- Experience with RF test equipment such as vector network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, and signal generators.
- Experience reading and interpreting detailed schematics and drawings.
- Significant experience working under a microscope on small microelectronic assemblies
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
- Ability to work 4th shift (Friday–Sunday) on‑site in Rolling Meadows, IL.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance.
- US Citizenship required.

Preferred Qualifications :

- Associate of Science or technical degree in electronics technology.
- Military experience and education working with electronic equipment and systems.
- Experience in aerospace/defense or other high‑reliability electronics manufacturing environments.
- Experience using SAP or other Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) or Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) to document testing performed, enter test results, and create/manage quality notifications (QNs) or nonconformance records.
- Experience working extensively under a microscope (inspection, rework support, or detailed troubleshooting).
- Experience with ESD and FOD control practices working in Cleanrooms.
- Experience with continuous improvement and process‑improvement principles (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma, 6S).
- Experience handling CUI and COMSEC‑related hardware or documentation.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.

Primary Level Salary Range: $75,500.00 - $125,900.00

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
