Maintenance Operations Engineering Technician (NASA CMC)

Leidos has an excellent opportunity for an Engineering Technician to work on the Cargo Mission Contract (CMC) and support a growing portfolio of NASA and commercial customer work. In this position, the Engineering Technician will provide technical support for engineers in areas including research, design, development, testing, manufacturing, fabrication, modification, repair, and process improvement.

Work will include electrical and mechanical fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, testing, and technical documentation support. This position will support new hardware development projects, sustaining engineering, and customer requirements both at the primary work location and, when required, at customer support locations throughout the United States.

Primary Responsibilities

- Provide technical engineering support and perform work in accordance with approved work-authorizing documents, engineering drawings, procedures, and work instructions.
- Perform fabrication, assembly, modification, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of electrical, electronic, and mechanical components, assemblies, and equipment.
- Perform work pertaining to laptops, printers, audiovisual equipment, electrical/electronic hardware, mechanical components, and associated equipment.
- Perform cable, harness, and electronic component fabrication utilizing NASA-recognized workmanship standards, including soldering, cable and harness fabrication, staking, conformal coating, and related processes.
- Read, interpret, and implement requirements from engineering drawings, schematics, work orders, procedures, and other technical documentation.
- Support hardware testing, troubleshooting, inspection, repair, and modification activities.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously, establish priorities, and accomplish tasks in a fast-paced environment with changing requirements and tight deadlines.
- Lead or coordinate assigned technical activities and operations within areas having significant impact on organizational or project results.
- Provide technical guidance, assistance, and hands-on training to lower-level technicians and support personnel.
- Support document and work-instruction reviews and provide technician-level feedback to engineering personnel.
- Maintain tools, equipment, work areas, and laboratory spaces in accordance with applicable safety, quality, calibration, cleanliness, and organizational requirements.
- Perform general laboratory cleanup, organization, and maintenance.
- Travel domestically, as required, to support fabrication, modification, repair, testing, troubleshooting, document review, and other customer or program technical requirements.

Basic Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of 8 years of related technical experience.
- Strong understanding of how to read, interpret, and implement requirements from engineering drawings, work orders, procedures, and technical documentation.
- Experience performing electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical fabrication, assembly, troubleshooting, repair, or testing.
- Familiarity with engineering drawing and documentation processes.
- Familiarity with tool and equipment calibration requirements.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary technical team.
- Ability to support multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities and customer requirements.

Preferred Qualifications

- Technical/trade school certification or associate degree in engineering technology, electronics technology, mechanical technology, or a related technical discipline.
- Current or previous workmanship certification and hands-on experience with NASA-STD-8739.1, NASA-STD-8739.4, IPC J-STD-001, and/or IPC/WHMA-A-620.
- Experience with cable and harness fabrication, soldering, staking, conformal coating, and electronic assembly.
- Experience with printed wiring board (PWB) population and repair utilizing through-hole and surface-mount soldering techniques.
- Experience troubleshooting electrical and electronic hardware to the component or assembly level.
- Experience supporting hardware fabrication, modification, repair, testing, and/or field activities at customer or remote locations.
- Working knowledge of Maximo Inventory Management System or similar work management, inventory, or task-order systems.
- Experience working within NASA, aerospace, defense, or other highly controlled manufacturing and engineering environments.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 10% to support program and customer requirements. Travel may include Kennedy Space Center (KSC), testing activities in San Antonio and California, and other locations throughout the United States as required to support fabrication, modification, repair, testing, troubleshooting, and technical/documentation review activities.

This position is covered under the Service Contract Act and is subject to minimum wage requirements as well as minimum Health and Welfare benefits. The rate for this position will be at least $40/hr, but may be higher based on actual experience.

Must be able to pass a Public Trust background investigation. U.S. Citizenship or U.S. Permanent Resident status is required.
