AIML Research Counsel – Product & Regulatory Legal

At Apple, we are dedicated to making the best products on the planet. As a member of the Product & Regulatory Legal Group, you will play a crucial role in providing the legal support needed for Apple to continue building cutting-edge products and services.

You will join a team of attorneys in the Product & Regulatory Legal Group who support the development of Apple’s artificial intelligence and machine learning (AIML) technologies, products, and services. You will support Research, Engineering, and Product teams to conduct pre-publication legal review of research papers and related models, code, and datasets, mitigating risks related to intellectual property, product development, and confidentiality. You will also independently review evaluation and training datasets for copyright, privacy, and data-use restrictions. By translating complex, evolving legal requirements into practical, actionable guidance, you will play a pivotal role in enabling research and dataset use that aligns with Apple’s broader AIML goals.

Minimum Qualifications

4+ years of legal experience at a technology company, a leading law firm, or a government agency.
JD or equivalent and admission to at least one state bar.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing strategic and practical advice to AIML Research, Engineering, and Product teams. Advising on AIML dataset and pre-publication research reviews a significant plus.
Excellent communicator who is able to issue-spot and articulate complex and nuanced legal issues clearly and concisely to frontline business and senior executives alike.
Creative problem-solver who can drive projects and analyze and help resolve complex issues in innovative and practical ways.
Best suited for a high energy, assertive, self-starter who loves technology and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Ability to see beyond the precise question asked to larger issues and implications.
