ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (include but are not limited to):
- Operate LNG transport trucks and tanker trailers safely in accordance with company procedures, road traffic laws, and hazardous materials transport requirements.
- Conduct pre-trip, en route, and post-trip inspections of the tractor, tanker, hoses, valves, gauges, safety equipment, tyres, lights, brakes, and related accessories.
- Verify delivery instructions, route plans, permits, dispatch documentation, and customer/site access requirements before departure.
- Safely support LNG loading and unloading activities, including shunting, hose connection and disconnection, grounding/earthing requirements, valve operation, pressure monitoring, and emergency shutdown readiness.
- Monitor tanker pressure, temperature, fittings, and safety systems during loading, transit, waiting periods, and unloading.
- Maintain defensive driving practices and adjust driving behaviour for road, weather, traffic, terrain, and site conditions.
- Comply with journey management requirements, approved routes, speed limits, fatigue management rules, and rest-period requirements.
- Complete delivery notes, trip logs, inspection reports, fuel records, incident reports, and other required documentation accurately and on time.
- Immediately report vehicle defects, leaks, abnormal pressure changes, accidents, near misses, customer complaints, security concerns, or unsafe conditions.
- Maintain professional communication with dispatch, terminal operators, customer site representatives, maintenance teams, and supervisors.
- Keep assigned vehicle and equipment clean, secured, and ready for operation.
- Participate in emergency response drills, safety meetings, toolbox talks, training sessions, and competency assessments.
SAFETY, COMPLIANCE, AND ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Follow all LNG handling procedures, hazardous materials controls, permit-to-work requirements, and site-specific safety rules.
- Use required personal protective equipment, including flame-resistant clothing where required, gloves, safety footwear, eye/face protection, hard hat, and high-visibility clothing.
- Recognize LNG hazards, including cryogenic burns, vapour cloud formation, oxygen displacement, flammability, pressure build-up, static electricity, and confined-area risks.
- Ensure safe positioning of vehicles during loading and unloading, including chocking, braking, grounding/earthing, exclusion zones, and drive-away prevention controls.
- Respond appropriately to alarms, leaks, spills, fire risks, equipment malfunctions, road incidents, or site emergencies in accordance with emergency response procedures.
- Protect company assets, customer property, the public, and the environment by applying safe work practices at all times.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in heavy cargo/tanker haulage.
- Requires flexibility and ability to maintain a professional demeanor when dealing with tight deadlines, sensitive service issues, and emergency situations.
- Proven time management, scheduling and prioritization skills.
- Strong problem-solving management and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work a non-standard work schedule in a 24x7 operation.
- Articulated driver’s license (for at least 3 years), defensive driving certificate (no more than 2 yrs).
REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES:
- Strong defensive driving skills and sound judgement under changing road and site conditions.
- High attention to detail when inspecting equipment, reading gauges, and completing documentation.
- Safety-first mindset with willingness to stop work when conditions are unsafe.
- Ability to follow procedures precisely, especially during loading, unloading, and emergency situations.
- Good communication skills for coordinating with dispatch, terminal teams, customers, and supervisors.
- Reliability, punctuality, discipline, and ability to work with minimal supervision.
- Basic digital literacy for using GPS, electronic logging systems, mobile communication tools, or fleet management systems.
