Phlebotomist

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented and patient-focused Phlebotomist I to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will be responsible for collecting blood and other biological specimens, ensuring accurate specimen processing, and maintaining compliance with laboratory and safety procedures. The ideal candidate will have strong phlebotomy skills, excellent customer service abilities, and a commitment to delivering high-quality patient care.
## Key Responsibilities
Perform venipuncture and specimen collection procedures, including blood, urine, and fecal specimen collection. Properly identify, label, and process patient specimens according to established laboratory protocols. Operate centrifuge equipment and prepare specimens for testing, storage, or shipment. Verify laboratory requisitions, physician orders, and specimen labels to ensure accuracy and completeness. Package and prepare specimens for transport while maintaining specimen integrity and chain-of-custody requirements. Store specimens according to required temperature and handling guidelines. Clearly explain specimen collection procedures to patients in a professional, courteous, and reassuring manner. Accurately update and maintain patient information, records, and collection documentation. Follow testing protocols and special handling requirements for specific laboratory procedures. Answer incoming calls and respond to routine laboratory-related inquiries. Maintain compliance with OSHA, DEP, and applicable laboratory safety regulations. Support overall laboratory operations while ensuring quality standards and patient satisfaction.
## Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy certification preferred or required per state regulations. Knowledge of venipuncture procedures and specimen collection techniques. Ability to accurately identify, label, and process specimens. Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Excellent communication and customer service skills. Ability to follow detailed procedures and maintain quality standards in a fast-paced environment.
## Preferred Qualifications
Experience using straight needles and butterfly needles for blood collection. Experience working with difficult draws or "hard-stick" patients. Previous healthcare, laboratory, or patient-facing experience. Familiarity with specimen processing, centrifugation, and laboratory documentation procedures.

## Work Environment
Clinical laboratory, patient service center, or healthcare setting. Frequent standing, walking, and specimen handling. Regular interaction with patients, healthcare providers, and laboratory personnel. Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Anchorage, AK.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $19.00 - $19.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
