Project Manager

Job Title: Project Manager Fabrication and Machining Job Description This role leads complex projects in a highly regulated fabrication and machining shop, overseeing the full lifecycle from contract handoff through delivery. The Project Manager develops and controls integrated schedules and budgets, coordinates cross-functional activities, and ensures projects meet technical, quality, cost, and delivery requirements. The position requires strong project management expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to drive multiple complex manufacturing projects to successful completion. Responsibilities

- Develop and maintain integrated project schedules using tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera P6, updating progress regularly and forecasting completion dates.
- Build and manage project budgets based on Sales Turnover documentation, estimates, labor plans, purchase commitments, and customer contracts, establishing baseline cost and schedule.
- Monitor project financial performance by reviewing labor hours, material costs, outside processing, and purchase orders, comparing actuals to budget, and forecasting Estimate at Completion (EAC).
- Coordinate engineering, procurement, quality, manufacturing, shipping, and customer activities throughout project execution to maintain schedule commitments and remove roadblocks.
- Develop fabrication and production plans to support on-time delivery, including sequencing machining, welding, NDE, heat treatment, coating, testing, inspections, and shipment.
- Review customer contracts, specifications, and technical requirements to ensure compliance and identify flow-down requirements across departments.
- Manage project risks, issues, and change requests by identifying risks early, developing mitigation plans, and escalating issues appropriately when needed.
- Lead cross-functional project meetings, including internal kickoff meetings, weekly production meetings, and customer reviews, while tracking action items and documenting meeting minutes.
- Manage change by evaluating engineering changes, assessing cost and schedule impacts, coordinating implementation, and maintaining configuration control.
- Manage supplier performance and long-lead procurement activities, including coordinating outside processing, tracking supplier performance, expediting critical materials, and resolving supplier issues affecting schedule.
- Conduct regular customer communication, including status meetings and written updates, managing customer action items, and coordinating contract changes and schedule impacts.
- Ensure understanding and application of NQA-1 quality requirements, including quality records, configuration management, document control, hold points, traceability, and Corrective Action Program (CAP) processes.
- Interpret and implement contract requirements by reviewing customer contracts, understanding specifications and technical drawings, and coordinating implementation across engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams.
- Effectively communicate with customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders at all levels to ensure alignment and successful project execution.
- Manage multiple complex manufacturing projects simultaneously in a regulated environment, maintaining focus on safety, quality, cost, and schedule.

Essential Skills

- Proven project management experience overseeing projects from contract award through delivery, ideally within regulated environments.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain integrated project schedules using Microsoft Project and/or Primavera P6.
- Strong budgeting and financial management skills, including the ability to build project budgets, monitor financial performance, and forecast Estimate at Completion (EAC).
- Experience in production planning and scheduling within a fabrication and machining environment, including coordination of machining, welding, NDE, heat treatment, coating, testing, inspections, and shipment.
- Hands-on experience with change order and contract management, including evaluation of engineering changes and assessment of cost and schedule impacts.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel for scheduling, reporting, and financial analysis.
- Experience working with ERP systems to manage project data, procurement, and production activities.
- Ability to manage multiple complex manufacturing projects simultaneously in a regulated environment.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to drive projects forward, lead cross-functional teams, and remove obstacles to execution.
- Excellent communication skills for engaging customers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders, including preparing and delivering clear status reports.
- Self-starter mindset with a highly collaborative working style.
- Technical background in Mechanical or Manufacturing Engineering or another closely related technical discipline (degree or equivalent technical experience).

Additional Skills & Qualifications

- Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a closely related technical field, or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience.
- Experience in steel fabrication and complex machining environments.
- Experience working in nuclear or other highly regulated industries, with familiarity in applying NQA-1 quality requirements.
- Understanding of NQA-1 quality standards, including quality records, configuration management, document control, hold points, traceability, and Corrective Action Program (CAP).
- Ability to interpret and apply contract requirements, specifications, and technical drawings, including identification and management of flow-down requirements.
- Experience coordinating long-lead procurement and managing supplier performance in support of complex manufacturing projects.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to track action items, maintain meeting minutes, and manage multiple priorities.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively across engineering, procurement, quality, manufacturing, and shipping functions.
- Comfort working with customer-facing responsibilities, including leading status meetings and managing contract changes.

Work Environment This position is based onsite at a fabrication and machining shop in Clackamas, OR. The Project Manager primarily works in an office setting while regularly interacting on the shop floor to support project execution and coordinate with production teams. The environment combines desk-based planning, scheduling, and reporting with hands-on engagement in a heavy industrial manufacturing setting that includes steel fabrication, machining, welding, and related processes. The role uses tools such as Microsoft Project, Microsoft Excel, Primavera P6, and ERP systems on a daily basis. The Project Manager collaborates closely with engineering, procurement, quality, manufacturing, shipping, suppliers, and customers to ensure successful delivery of complex projects.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Clackamas, OR.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $57.00 - $60.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
