Job Title: CAD Drafter Job Description
The CAD Drafter develops detailed AutoCAD drawings for structural safety equipment design and layout across a variety of commercial projects. This role focuses on accurate structural detailing, clear documentation, and close coordination with construction teams to ensure safety equipment is properly planned and implemented.
Responsibilities
- Create detailed AutoCAD drawings for structural safety equipment design and layout for commercial projects.
- Produce precise structural detail drawings that support engineering, architectural, and construction documentation requirements.
- Interpret and incorporate redline drawings and markups into updated design and construction documents.
- Prepare and maintain bills of materials (BOM) associated with safety equipment layouts and related designs.
- Conduct site walk-throughs at construction locations to document project requirements and verify field conditions.
- Document safety equipment layouts based on site observations, project specifications, and engineering standards.
- Translate blueprints, schematics, and engineering concepts into clear, accurate CAD drawings.
- Collaborate with mechanical, civil, architectural, and MEP stakeholders to ensure drawings align with multidisciplinary project needs.
- Revise and update drawings in response to design changes, field feedback, and construction redlines.
- Organize and maintain drawing files and documentation to support project tracking and construction workflows.
Essential Skills
- 610 years of experience using AutoCAD for design, drafting, and detailing.
- Strong proficiency in CAD detailing, including structural detail drawings for commercial projects.
- Hands-on experience with structural design and drafting for safety equipment layouts.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, redline drawings, and construction documents.
- Experience preparing and managing bills of materials (BOM) for design projects.
- Capability to perform site walk-throughs and accurately document project requirements.
- Proficiency in creating and updating documentation for safety equipment layouts.
- Understanding of mechanical, civil, and architectural drawing standards and practices.
- Experience with drafting and design in engineering and construction environments.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in schematic and technical drawing production.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with Revit for design and drafting in architectural, structural, or MEP contexts.
- Background in mechanical design and CAD drafting for engineering projects.
- Familiarity with MEP (mechanical, electrical, plumbing) design and coordination in construction documents.
- Experience working with architecture and structural engineering teams on commercial construction projects.
- Ability to create and revise schematics and detailed drawings for multidisciplinary project teams.
- Comfort working with a variety of drawing types, including mechanical, civil, and architectural plans.
- Strong organizational skills for managing multiple drawing packages and project documentation.
Work Environment
This role is primarily based in an office setting, where you will work with AutoCAD and related design tools to produce detailed structural and safety equipment drawings. Approximately 20% of the time, you will travel to different construction sites around the country to conduct site walk-throughs, document project requirements, and verify field conditions. You will collaborate closely with engineering, architectural, and construction teams in a professional environment focused on accurate documentation, clear communication, and safe project execution.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of North Charleston, SC.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $38.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
